"He comes back to me with deeper hurts, his eyes full of tears—not for himself, but for others."

*sigh* Beautiful summation of Aragorn, in a single sentence.

Author Reply: (I missed this review for a long time. My bad.)

This is one of my favorite stories that I wrote. *grin* I was straining to make it work, and it actually did. :)

I think all fathers love to worry about their children. Elrond in this story is sad, but also hopeful--and this story is like LOTr in the hopeful feeling that no matter how bad things gets there's always hope.

Author Reply: I think you hit the nail about hope. All right, maybe I'm thinking to much about the scene in which Aragorn says "There is always hope," but--it's true. Had none of the people had hope, they wouldn't have gotten very far.

This is really lovely. I particularly like the picture of Estel as a child with a wooden sword, whirling with determination.

Author Reply: It certainly would be something interesting to see. :) I'm still hoping Estel makes a cameo in the Hobbit movie...

Sweet and then bittersweet - the games that are no longer fun and no longer games, the hurts that are first ignored and then understood not be weaknesses, the pain not for oneself but for others. Lots to learn from here.

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

A nice look at Aragorn through Elrond's eyes.

Author Reply: Very happy you thought 'tis so. :)

Thanks for reading.

Cal, as I told you before, this is a most moving and poignant vignette in which you managed to capture with feeling in a few words the essence of Aragorn.

Congratulations

Author Reply: And I'll tell you again--thank you, Estelcontar!

The child was the promise of the man to come; the man holds the echo of the child who was, and who still is Hope embodied.

Excellent POV.

What I like is your ability to sum up a fic perfectly in one line. :) Glad you liked this.

Thanks for reading!

He comes back to me with deeper hurts, his eyes full of tears—not for himself, but for others.

What a beautiful line. It really sums up Aragorn's character, and the kind of King he will be.

Author Reply:
I dearly love Aragorn and all his wonderful qualities, but it was terribly hard to sum up his early years with the word limit. It took me a day to come up with this line, and three days to write this ficlet, despite the fact it's only 500 words. For something that started out as a poem, it grew into something bigger.

Thanks for reviewing.
