Wonderful AU. Yes, I love the idea that Boromir carried the Ring to Mordor as his redemption. Well done.
Once you write the prequel for Big Bang challenge, it would also be great to see the sequel. *sweet puppy look* Your cheerleader will be with you every inch of that way, if you want. :)

This is a wonderful story! I love the thought that Boromir could atone for what he had done, and the fact that he found a way to master the Ring after it had tried to master him.

Absolutely wonderful! I can very well imagine Boromir doing just that! No matter what so many people might seem to think, he was a noble and brave Man, and a good one, in the hearts of his heart.

I am speechless at the power and perfectness of this AU fic. Boromir has always been my favourite character in LOTR ever since I started reading it as a 10-year more years ago than I care to count because of all the members of the Fellowship he was the most real and human to me. I wept when he succumbed to the Ring and mourned him as though he were a blood relative when he died. So reading this, how his weakness became his armour against the Ring and his hearkening back to the oath he swore as a boy, how he reluctantly accepted the burden of destroying hte Ring, and most of all, how he was succeeding in his task has made my day. You have a lovely writing style, and a wonderful grasp of characterization. This was most definitely Boromir, son of Denethor of Gondor, not another personality wearing his name and I greatly appreciate that. I only hope that in the end he was rescued by Gandalf and the Eagles and was able to return to his beloved Gondor and his father and brother.

Bravi, bravi, bravissimi. I will most defintiely be re-reading this many, many times.

Author Reply: Thank you so much for your many kind words! I appreciate them the more because it sounds like you and I had a similar experience with loving Boromir from the beginning; what you share is what I felt about him, too. I might have been smitten with Aragorn for a time, at first, but the "realness" and humanity of Boromir's struggle drew me to him quite quickly, and Aragorn was forgotten. ;-)

I will probably have to go back and write a longer version of this tale one day, but I did happen to have a bit of a back story in mind as I wrote, and I can reassure you that, yes, the Eagles came, and Boromir was rescued!

Aha! Very logically explained and well-reasoned--I hope! But will it still require Gollum? He ought to be following, I'd think....

Author Reply: Thank you! I spent a lot of time working out the back story for this one, so that it would hopefully fit and make sense. I'm glad for your words of reassurance as well as for your insight into what some of the gaps are that remain! I do believe I will have to go back and write a longer version of this tale one day, because other readers are wondering about details like Gollum, too. I shall have to figure that out, because he most definitely would be following the Ring, if he still lived. ;-) In the tale as I envisioned it, he was not going to be vital to the completion of the Quest, but he must have been encountered and dealt with at some point along the way...

Oh. lovely. I never yet saw a happy "Somebody takes the ring" AU. "Come, my beauty" -- great tone. Hope eagles will still safe him.

Author Reply: Thank you! It just so happens I did work out a bit of a back story as I wrote, and I was thinking that the Eagles could very well have rescued him. The story would still work well if he was not rescued, but what a shame it would be if he didn't make it back home alive! :-)

'It had been less of a viable pass than he had remembered from his youth, when he had explored' - I love this line. It shows that Boromir, even in his youth, was cognizant of Gondor's needs and had the gumption to start to prepare himself!

I love the reasoning behind it being Boromir who must take it - I think Frodo was right.

'All his life he had vowed to make the Dark One pay for the hurt he had done to Gondor and her people; now was his chance to fulfill that other vow, made so long ago, when he was no more than a boy.' I can see young Boromir making such a vow, especially after losing his mother....

'Come. Let us be done with it. My people, my friends are waiting..." This ending was perfect! Pure Boromir!

Author Reply: Thank you for a lovely review! It does make sense to me, too, that an honorable man like Boromir could the perfect back up Ringbearer, simply because he would be so determined not to fail twice, and he would be on his guard against the wiles of the Ring. I, too, love the idea of him being able to personally strike the blow against Sauron, in payment of the many vows he must have made through the years on behalf of his family and his people.

You make this AU seem very plausible! I also think that the hold of the Ring on Boromir had been completely broken when he came to his senses--yes, this does make sense...

Author Reply: Thank you so much -- I'm glad you think it is plausible! It's nice to know I'm not the only one who believes Boromir was cured of his desire for the Ring once he recovered, and could be trusted to be around it again. :-)

Oh...

WOW!

This is absolutely beautiful and incredible. I can see this happening! The language is so well constructed and the characterization of Boromir just works so well. I can see Boromir coming out of Amon Hen this strong, able to reject the Ring's blandishments, while recognizing the temptation.

Well done!

Author Reply: Thank you! It pleases me no end to hear that others thing this is a plausible as I do. I do believe he would have been strong against that temptation. Bless you for reading and enjoying my little story!

Well now you've got me wondering what happened to Sam and Pippin and Merry in this AU, if Saruman was still stopped, if Denethor still succumbs to madness, and above all - does Boromir succeed????

A plausible and sensitively written AU.

Author Reply: Thanks so much! I'm glad you think it is plausible, that means a lot to me. I did work up a bit of a back story for it, so I could see if it would even work, and I have a vague idea of what might have happened to the other hobbits, and members of the Fellowship, and Gollum, etc. I suspect I will have to write the full tale one day, though, and fill in those gaps. However, I do know this; Boromir does indeed succeed! And I THINK he survives...
