The Journal and Sketchbook of Calla Brandybuck  by Dreamflower 6 Review(s)
Baggins BabeReviewed Chapter: 1 on 2/9/2008
A wonderful word picture of Frodo and his proud mama, and a gorgeous real picture to go with it - as I was hoping.

I remember that adorable little playsuit with the bumblebees - how cute!

I hope you will add to these when inspiration strikes, Dreamflower, and what a talented artist you are, as well as an author.

What a clever use of Photobucket! And it's a very good illustration of Primula and Frodo on that Spring day long ago. :-)

I know from your previous tales that Frodo and his family were Calla's subjects on many occasions. I love her observances of the young family and look forward to more!

Fantastic! What a charming composition!

Author Reply: Thank you! I have to say, my ideas are very influenced by such old-fashioned children's illustrators as Kate Greenaway and Tasha Tudor. I always have thought their work has something sort of hobbity about it!

What a wonderful idea to open Cousin Calla's Sketchbook for us!

The first picture is beautifully done, as is the story of its making.
What a clever little lad our Frodo was. And Primula was undoubtedly very proud of him.

I'm looking forward to reading more :)

Author Reply: Thank you!

I will say, the picture came first, and then I tried to figure out what would go with it!

Frodo was a clever baby, wasn't he? And I've always imagined Primula was a very proud mama!

I did open this separately from my other mathoms, as I hope to add to it over time.

Lovely description of Frodo with his mum and the drawing is beautiful. This is a nice idea and a great start! Looking forward to more.

Author Reply: I'm so glad you liked it! I decided to do this separately from my other mathoms because I really am hoping there will be more!

I'm glad you liked the drawing!

This is absolutely delightful. What a pleasant surprise. I had hoped their might be sketches or some such, given the name of the tale. Also, I could 'see' an artist's eyes in your wording. Lovely tale.

Author Reply: Thank you! I hope to add to this as inspiration strikes!
