In Remembrance  by PipMer 13 Review(s)

Oh dear! How is he going to be able to keep his promise to Merry when he is so very bereft? I hope the healing hands of the King will do him some good--it's so distressing to imagine the elderly Pippin having to carry on alone.

I like your flashbacks to their life in the Shire--I think "Boromac" is an excellent Brandybuck name for Merry's son!

Author Reply: Thank you so much, DF!

I'm sure Pip will recover, it's just going to take a lot of time; time, and the healing company of his remaining friends. He really won't have to go on alone.

I like my flashbacks too :) At first I was going to name Merry's son Borodoc, but then "Boromac" sounded so much better for some reason.

Thank you for reading and reviewing!

Oh, how sad! Poor Pippin, to have to go on without Merry! I do hope that his other friends will rally around him--Aragorn, Faramir, Legolas and Gimli.

I like the way you had Merry having a premonition--I think he is every bit as likely to have them as Pippin is!

Poor Pip!

Author Reply: Thanks, DF! I do feel that Merry would be just as prone to foresight, since he's just as much Took as Pippin is.

Pippin is lucky to be surrounded by friends at a time like this.

Memories can be both a healing and painful and I think Pippin is in too much pain just now for his memories of Merry to be of any help to him. Nice choice of memories by the way. This is so very angsty. I just can't write anything with much angst. I admire that about you! More soon.

Author Reply: Thank you, GW! Funny you should say you admire the way I write angst... I admire the way you write humour. I just can't do it! Too much darkness in me seeking an outlet, LOL.

Thank you for the comments on the memories I chose. I thought they were very apropos. I was inspired by elanor's flashbacks in her story A Secret Gate.

Seems that Merry had a bit of fore-warning this time and managed to get his thoughts in order before he went on. I do feel very sad for Pippin here. Very well written.

Author Reply: Thank you, GW! I have always thought that Merry would have just as much of the foresight as Pip, since they are both half-Took. And I believe that Merry would want to make sure Pip was alright before he passed on.

Thanks for reading!

Poor Pippin! That would be the most devastating loss, a larger part of his own heart and soul, even more, as you say, than Diamond was. Perhaps he could talk to Sam who went through the same thing when Frodo left, though of course Sam has hope of seeing Frodo again, alive.

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: Thank you for your kind words, Antane!

I always thought that by this time, Sam had already sailed into the west, but that is just my take on things. I'm not sure when he was supposed to have left. But Pippin does have other friends in Minas Tirith, friends who will show up shortly.

Oh dear! I hope there's more of this!

You have very deftly captured the pain of Pippin's grief and loss, the shock of his world turning upside down, the fear of life without Merry, the sickening certainty that nothing will ever be the same.

The flashbacks were well-chosen and very effective. Good job! I hope Aragorn arrives soon on the scene!

Author Reply: Thank you, elanor! Yes, there is more of this to come. I would never end it like this!

To be honest, I was inspired to do the flashbacks by your story, which is rife with flashbacks. You are my inspiration, lol.

Yes, soon Pippin's friends, including Aragorn, will make an entrance, all to help the old Took heal.

Oh! You have such a talent for angst, PipMer! What a sad, yet appropriate ending.

Author Reply: Thank you, cathleen. It's not done yet, though...more to come.

Very sad, yet very good!

Author Reply: Thank you Esquire! I'm glad you are enjoying it.

Grief...it is such a strong and encompassing emotion. It does 'floor' a person and it only takes a slight look at something or someone and 'wham' you're hit! Pippin's reaction is not out of the ordinary. Grief is like having a part of yourself torn away without warning.

Author Reply: Thank you for the comments, Neilia! I truly think, as close as Merry and Pippin were, that his reaction would certainly be similar to this.

Thank you for reading!

OMG that's so sad!! Isn't it so hard to write when one of them die? I've been writing a story for about a couple of months called "Death is for Nightmares" where Merry is killed in a nightmare.....by Pippin. It's so hard to write when one of them die or gets killed. Like I wrote a story called "Losing You" it's about Merry losing Pippin when they are much older but I can't bring myself to finish the fricken story!

Author Reply: Thank you for reading, pippinsgirl! Yes, it is hard to write, but I seem to get in these moods where the angst just pours out of me, lol.

I wish you luck with your story, it sounds interesting.
