Vilwarin's Vignettes  by Vilwarin 5 Review(s)

This is lovely... I like the intertwining of days, Halbarad's birth- and death-day being the same, and then the way you've tied it in with Aragorn's birth- and death-day. I had never really given thought to when Halbarad's birthday might be, but this idea is poignant. I also love how you've written Aragorn's musings. They're wistful, and sad, but not maudlin. I'll be enjoying the picture of Aragorn arriving beyond the Dark Sea, and Halbarad waiting, perhaps a gift in hand.

Author Reply: Thank you. The fact that Aragorn died on is birthday has always fascinated me. It somehow completes the cycle of life. I love the idea of Halbarad waiting with a gift. ;)

Was great that you mentioned Pelenor Fields..but was sad at the end with Aragorn's death...really liked the way you wrote Arwen's patience as she listened to Aragorn "rant".

Favorite one so far.

Author Reply: Thank you. I think that that day must always have remained in his heart. I can't imagine Arwen *not* being patient.

Oh, I've missed some! How did I do that? *headdesk*

Wow, every time I read one of your prompt ficlets, I am hit by how well you write Aragorn. This is simply beautiful and so sad. I love the irony, and the giftgiving between Aragorn and Halbarad. Very nice!

I'm almost always in Aragorn's head - and I'm glad that it worked for you. There is so much "sad potential" in the story of his life that it's somehow frightening. From how I see it, the two were best friends and the giftgiving seemed fitting for them.

I see that the first time I read this the ISP from Mordor cut off the review I wrote before it posted.

It is indeed an irony, and one to think on, that led to these two having come to their deaths on the anniversaries of their births. But there are yet good associations for them both.

Author Reply: Thank you. I've always been a bit fascinated by Aragorn dying on his birthday and what might lie behind it. That was also part of my inspiration.
