Outside Of Time  by Eruanneth_Luin 4 Review(s)

That was lovely to read. I especially like seeing Elmo at the beginning of the story, and events starting off in a rather ordinary way. There were of course a few details that did not sit well with me personally, but your interpretation and prose are too beautiful to quibble over those things! You made me feel that the long-brewing ruin of Doriath as a personal tragedy, which indeed it was for each of its inhabitants.

Author Reply: Even the most extraordinary events frequently have a rather commonplace prelude. It is with great happiness for me that despite our divergent thoughts, you could look at the story, as a whole, with satisfaction. Other authors may have written of this event, but I have not read any of those versions.

Doriath, for me, was also the end of the most unique relationship ever to be formed in the long history of the elves.

Your review is most appreciated, Redheredh.

What a beautiful story! Elwe is one of my favorite elves anyway. You have made their meeting very believeable with your lovely prose.

Author Reply: Kestrel, thank you for this review.

I, too, enjoyed watching this strong-willed leader, Elwë, drawn to the music and incomparable beauty of a Maia, and her mutual attraction to him. This was truly a labor of love, in all its aspects.

Oh, this was beautifully written. The prose was beautiful, lilting, and draws you in. I was spellbound!

Author Reply: Thank you for the uplifting review, Calenlass Greenleaf. Often we writers think we have created a flavorful morsel only to discover that it may by too rich for the palate of most readers. You have made this effort well worth the time spent.

Tolkien left us with so many tantalizing glimpses into his world, which whet the curiosity to know "the rest of the story." He left much unsaid in the first meeting of Elwë and Melian. I have simply attempted to share the possibility that I envisioned.

This is a delightful story you have posted. I never really understood the line where Tolkien explains why Melian leaves Doriath. I always thought she just abandoned the elves and the realm, but you have clearly explained the reason in your story that is more understandable on why Melian left in the first place. I love that you have delved into something that I am sure has not been done before out of the fics I read though. I really enjoyed how you went into depth of the meeting of Thingol and Melian. You have such good insight into the spirit of the Maiar and the workings of the Eldar. What is the next chapter going to be about? Is it like a series on Elwe's line or are you just going to be writing fated meetings of the First Age? I really want to know. Badly...

Well, Happy writing and Namarie!

Author Reply: It delights me that you find my little tales enjoyable and informative, Nariel.

For me the real pleasure is “filing in the spaces” of the works of J.R.R.Tolkien. The untold story of the missing years of Elwë and Melian intrigued me so much that I had to find out what happened.

Unless I feel really up to the challenge of Fëanor, this will be likely be the last I write for a while. It put a lot of time and thought into each story; I started this one about 8 months ago.

Thank you for your encouraging review.
