What Life to Choose  by Calenlass 5 Review(s)

You have a real talent for writing poems, Cal.

As is obvious from my own little obsession with the twins, I have a real fascination for the whole concept of the choice of the peredhil. To have to decide one's own fate that way would be a terrible position to be put in, I think. To live forever or to age and die--I don't believe that the decision would be as obvious as many of us mortals might think.

I enjoyed this well-written little exploration of such a very interesting subject.

Author Reply: I've always been interested in the peredhil's choosing of either immortality/mortality, becuase it's not one that I can ever make and because it was something unique that Tolkien invented. The first time I read it in the Silmarillion I didn't understand it. After reading the book a few more times, I realized how important the choice was.
I don't think I can ever make that choice.

Thanks for reading!

Cal, I really enjoyed this poem. I can't even imagine how difficult it would be to make such a choice. I adored the line, "Eternity or ephemerality?" That sums it all up!

THE question, of course. Definitely THE question.

Author Reply: And a hard question it is.

Another neat poem! I choose mortality - it is not called the Gift of Iluvatar for nothing and the soul is immortal - why linger here when there is so much more and better to come! The poor Elves!

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: Some might disagree with you, but if I had the choice, I would look at both and see the pron/cons of each, and not be able to choose.
Guess it's a good thing it's already been chosen for me. :)
