| I like the way Gimly compares Eowyn to Galadriel. It feels right, somehow. They both are described through opposites (fair but terrible/mighty as a mountain but merry as girl with daisies), and Eowyn's steel-likeness should speak to Gimli's heart. Author Reply: I'm so glad that you picked up on that comparison and felt that it rang true for Gimli; he's so deeply affected by his experiences in Lothlorien, that I believe it does color his initial reactions to other new people he meets. Eowyn is quite fierce in her own way, and I think he would respect that. Thank you so much for your thoughtful review! | |

| Oooo, nice story! You've really got Gimli's voice here, I think. Sturdy and earthy, a deep, somewhat philosophical thinker, but not overly inclined to share his thoughts, especially when they stray to Elves. And I like the way you show his relationship with Legolas at this point -- somewhat tentative, but with each question asked and honestly answered, the bonds of trust deepen. Author Reply: Many thanks! The story initially had a one-word prompt of 'earth,' hence a lot of ground and earth imagery. I'm fascinated by Gimli and Dwarves, and the exploration of their friendship, especially in the early days post-Lothlorien, is so fun for me to write about. | This is lovely. You show understanding and respect for Tolkien's Dwarves, and for his Elves too. Gimli is thoughtful and wise, but still has that truculent edge that makes him so much fun to read. I particlarly liked your use of Icelandic words here -- maybe not exactly Dwarvish, but I think Tolkien would have approved. Both Legolas and Gimli shine here, each unique and fully developed in his own separate way. The image of Elves and Dwarves like a blade against a turning stone is wonderfully done. I just adore Gimli so much; to me he's so complex and secretive (as are all Dwarves) that I love exploring his inner thoughts. Writing about his evolving and unexpected friendship with Legolas is so much fun, and I'm pleased that you enjoyed this short gap-filler. | An excellent venue of the group riding to Helm's Deep. You paint wonderful pictures with your words and the interaction between the different characters are really revealing of the differences between the cultures. Gimli is so earthy with his desire to keep his feet firmly attached to the ground versus the light and yet ancient personality of Legolas. I like how you demonstrate their growing friendship and learning about each other as they walk about the camp. Author Reply: Thank you very much!!
