Vows  by French Pony 6 Review(s)

A tragic moment for Maglor...and for the two elflings as well, since for the second time they are separated from those who cared for them... But the tragic doom that the feanorians cast upon themselves would not allow them lasting peace and happiness, and the elflings were better off away from him, as MAglor will surely understand.

Maedhros in his way was as destructive as his father, if perhaps more humane about it. And he sees Maglor one step closer to his final doom of isolation and eternal banishment from all that had ever been dear to him.

I loved how you began this chapter. I had to do a double-take - just such love and joy in Maglor's house - took my breath away.

But then - the coming of Maedhros is like the coming of doom. Well written. "his laugh a little to hearty, smile a little too broad. Somehow reminds me of Saruman.

The horror of the words - too difficult even for an adult to fathom or swallow, let alone boys barely grown.

How does one go on in life when blow after blow befalls your heart, your mind, your soul. What Elros and Elrond survived was unimaginable, but what Maglor must survive is even worse.

I read this at work and had to blink way too many times to still the tears. Beautifully written chapter.

This was the broken vow that is the saddest to me. As you showed, Tolkien says somewhere (can't remember immediately) Elrond loved Maglor. To have to give them up and go for something he had no further interest in, after everything else he lost, has always made him a tragic figure to me. This chapter was powerfully sad.

Oh, this is gut-wrenching. Poor Maglor; and the kids; their little family wrenched apart for the second time. I think Maedhros could have waited; he didn't really need Maglor to go after the Silmarils; in a few years Elrond and Elros would have probably wanted to seek out Gil-galad on their own, which would have been far easier on the boys and Maglor...

Beautifully written, especially Maedhros offering Maglor a Silmaril of his own - to Maglor, the sons of Earendil were his jewels; and no Silmaril can replace them.

Oh dear. This was heartbreaking. It really was like the parting of children and a parent. The scene with Gil-galad was cool though. I liked the picture of his campsite and his ranged warriors and he himself.
