The Blessing  by Pearl Took 7 Review(s)
shireboundReviewed Chapter: 9 on 6/12/2007
The wizard saw in a flash himself and Pippin flying over the ground to the beat of Shadowfax’s hooves. Pippin, all curious questions one moment then shivering with fear the next, pressing tightly against Gandalf’s chest and cuddling into his arms for safety.

“I’ll see to the lad,” he whispered to Merry, Frodo and Sam.

What a lovely idea. Gandalf has such a soft spot for his dear lad.

Author Reply: Hi m'dear shirebound and thank you!

I felt Tolkien showed this in the books. He loved and cared for Bilbo and Frodo, was fond of Sam and Merry, but he seemed to have a special place in his heart for Pippin. Maybe because of Gerontius?

Great chapter, Pearl and Golden.

I had been waiting for this one for a while. I'm sad I wasn't home to read it last night when you posted it.

The story of what Merry and Pippin saw as young children was very sad. Maybe, now that they are going to be learning so much more about the falling sickness, they will be able to help Bandy when they get home.

Oh, now I'm so looking forward to the next chapter. Could we possilbly be going to get a some wonderful Gandalf-Pippin moments.:)

Got to run, or I'd say more.

Author Reply: Hi Garnet!

Thank you, glad you felt it is a great chapter :-)

It is a sad tale. I think they just might do that ;-)

Gandalf and Pippin do interact well together ;-)

Thank you for saying what you can, we love hearing from you!

OOOoooh! Poor Pippin! :( Poor, poor little hobbit! How much more angst do you think we can handle, Pearl?? It's called hurt/COMFORT for a reason you know!! LOL

Great job, and I like that Gandalf is playing "Dad" now. He'll fix Pip right up... won't he??

::wanders around forlornly until she knows poor Pip is Ok again::

Author Reply: Hi dear Daynawayna!

He'll be getting his comforting, I promise ;-) Gandalf's more a grandpa, LOL.

How are you doing? You seem frightfully worried, m'dear. Just keep in mind, I like pleasant endings.

Ahhh! Poor Pippin! He's having a dreadful time of it; I hope Gandalf sets everything to rights soon. And I hope the others don't have to spend too much time away from Pippin. Next to being being the person struck down, the worst thing is being the person who loves him. Bearing not only one's own fears but the burden of another's suffering is a heavy load indeed.

This is a gripping story!

Author Reply: Thank you so much, elanor w. :-)

Yes, the lad is having a bad go of it, but healing will begin soon. He's not yet out of the woods, but at last they all know what's happening now.

It truly is very hard to see a loved one suffer, but our hobbits do have each other and all the Felloship to lean on.

Bless Gandalf - good idea - and I'm not surprised that the rest of the Hobbits did not quite do what the wizard asked of him.

Author Reply: Hi Agape!

Bless the wizard indeed! He's a good soul. No, they would stay nearby to their kith and kin.

Thank you :-)

Such a sad tale about young Bandy. And even now, I know our Pippin will rise up to the challenge and overcome his fears. I've been reading tales of late that depict Pippin and his courage, and I have no doubt your Pippin will be no different. He's understandably lacking a bit of self-confidence right now, but he'll come through like a sparkling diamond. :-)

I loved the reference to Pearl's earlier tales of Pippin hiding behind the curtains. I'm still loving this awesome tale!

Author Reply: Thank you, Pippinfan :-)

I'm glad there are more writers doing tales that have Pip being brave. He really does end up a brave young hobbit.

I fear that Bandy's situation would have been all too common for many centuries.

Poor frightened lad. And he has reason--even if poor reason--to be frightened. Although some of the greatest of leaders in history, including Alexander the great and Julius Caesar are said to have been epileptic.

So glad Gandalf is there and has agreed to deal with this situation.

Author Reply: Hi, Larner, and thank you so much :-)

I thought I had heard that at least Julius Caesar had it. I was also thinking I might incorporate that in here somehow - not with Caesar obviously ;-)

Things will be calming down soon. There are struggles ahead but at least everyone will know what is going on.

Gandalf will be good for the lad :-)
