How beautiful and touching seeing them Knighted! I'm sure it will lend strength to both of them for what lies ahead.

Author Reply: Hello Cathleen :-)

It does and doesn't. It also adds some pressures they wouldn't have had otherwise.

Yes, Pippin was undoubtedly as overwhelmed as Sam and Frodo would be likely to feel the next day.

Excellent descriptions, and very realistic. Loved how those honored had their tales told, and the Hobbits recognized their own amidst the several presented to the assembly.

Author Reply: Thank you, Larner!

An "excellent" from you is high praise indeed :-) I'm glad you enjoyed the ceremony!

Yep...I caught both places in this chapter that will show what is to come. ;-) Very, very, excellent, indeed! I can see how this could be troublesome when he becomes Thain, but we shall see how he copes, which is one of the many purposes of this wonderful tale.

LOL, I see you have been to enough of your son's Award Ceremonies to see what one is like. :-) It was well done! I do like how you show the valour of other soldiers besides that of Merry and Pippin -- not to discount theirs at all, absolutely not, but I do believe that there were other soldiers just as courageous as our beloved hobbits.

*Extremely* eager for more!

Author Reply: Hi Pippinfan!

As I was writing this it hit me that it was as unlikely that they were the only ones to be knighted as it really was unlikely that Pip had come off so unscathed from the troll incident. I just had to write that there were other heroes being recognized by the new kings.

I'm glad I did it well :-)

Lovely! I alway enjoy fics where Merry and Pippin receive their knighthoods! You portrayed it very touchingly!

Author Reply: Thank you :-) Glad you enjoyed it!

I'm so glad to see an update to this.

I love the little bits of humor you wove into this chapter. I especially liked Pippin's plea, "Order them to stop."

I knew something was not going to be quite right, and it was confirmed the first time Pippin repeated himself. The staring off into space is another sign. If it's what I think it is, I hope these episodes don't keep worsening, for Pippin's sake. But, as a Pippinhealer, I'm of a whole other opinion.(evil grin)

I'm practically salivating for another chapter of this. You all are doing a fantastic job!

Author Reply: Hi Garnet! Thank you for noticing the humor :-) There will be a bit of a wait for the next chapter as Golden is going to be away from a computer all next week and I won't post a chapter without her reading it first, since it was her plot bunny that started it all. I'm hoping that will me to get ahead a few chapters and make it easier to keep posting at regular intervals.

King Elessar looked at the White Wizard. Had he ever seen Gandalf look more like a proud grandfather? The king smiled, he was sure he hadn’t. He could hardly wait to see the look on that dearly loved face on the morrow when Frodo and Sam would be honored.

Great! Gandalf as a proud grandfather, I like that image :)

But I'm really concerned about Pippin! What is it that he is seeing? His mind seems to be occupied with things he doesn't want to share with anyone else, not even Merry. Or maybe he doesn't understand what he sees?
I'm really worried!

P.S.: I fondly remember the story about Gimli's gift and I hope it helps our Pippin!

Author Reply: Hi Andrea!

I've always pictured Gandalf as feeling very grandfatherly toward all the hobbits, though Pippin in particular, and I was glad to find out that Golden does too - that part was hers :-)

I'm afraid to say that it will be a while before we find out what is happening with Pippin - have to have something to keep everyone's interest ;-) But I won't leave you all hanging forever.

Thank you, I'm glad you are enjoying our story!

Delightful chapter - and I know I should have been worried before, but I trusted to Strider's healing abilities - now, I'm concerned.

Author Reply: Thank you, Agape :-) Concern will be needed, sad to say.

Aw. Am supposed to be writing and emailing meeting minutes to people, and instead I'm sneaking in to read this chapter.

I love this part of LOTR, and this particular gapfilling period is what drew me into fanfic in the first place.

Nicely done.

I especially love the images of Pippin wearing his caretakers to a frazzle, and Gandalf as a proud grandfather.

Author Reply: Thank you, Lin :-) Pippin seems to frazzle people quite often ;-) We'll soon be moving on to Minas Tirith - hope you will be coming along!

It was suddenly very easy to remember that, by the reckoning of his kind, Pippin was still a youngster. Strider sighed. With all the lad had gone through, that all the hobbits had gone through, he had allowed himself to forget how young Peregrin actually was. He went down on one knee, his height no longer being an advantage.

He looked Pippin in the eye. “I promise you that you will be at their welcome and at the feast.”

It was a king’s promise and Pippin gave him a proper reply. “Thank you, your majesty.”

That passage is so wonderful. And this one...

King Elessar looked at the White Wizard. Had he ever seen Gandalf look more like a proud grandfather? The king smiled, he was sure he hadn’t. He could hardly wait to see the look on that dearly loved face on the morrow when Frodo and Sam would be honored.

Awwww. I'm just loving this story, ladies! :)

Author Reply: Thank you, shirebound! And you quoted one of Golden's bits! I'm glad as she's reading the responses. So glad you're loving our tale :-)
