Flotsam and Jetsam  by Rowan 4 Review(s)

Two that would have been left behind if they had been less determined and stayed. Such a bond they must have had afterward!

Author Reply: There are quite a few examples in LOTR of disobedience leading to great deeds. "Where will wants not, a way opens."

Ah--to be humbled and brought to reality by the faithfulness of this most unexpected of warriors! I am so glad Merry found his way, and at Dernhelm's side, for what is to come.

Eowyn is learning, and preparing herself in an odd way for what Fate is to offer her when the battle is won and the deeper battle is fought for her integrity is in question.

Author Reply: Eowyn is one of my favorite non-hobbit characters, and my overall favorite female character, because she is so "human". Tolkien places her "epiphany" (as I see it) a bit later, when she talks to Faramir, but I like to imagine it starting with Merry.

"And I wonder, which of us is the truer warrior?" Oooohhhh, this gave me goosebumps. Merry's courage was an inspiration to all who knew him, I am sure. Well done.

Author Reply: I like to think that all four hobbits touched people in that way. Thanks!

*teary eyes* Oh, I just love Eowyn drabbles, and this one is beautifully and poignantly written.
God bless,
Galadriel
