Dear Gimli, sharing his socks with the Man of Gondor. I'm sure Boromir was suitably grateful, not just to Gimli but also to the mother who packed them.

Author Reply: Poor Boromir! I'm sure he felt a twinge of sorrow and loneliness for the mother he lost so young. and what a tribute to Nandi, to have raised a son of such compassion and generosity.

Lovely! I like how you write Gimli. And I feel for Boromir. I love the title. Blessings are best when shared. Great drabble!

Author Reply: Thank you so much! These three drabbles just popped into my head out of nowhere, but I enjoyed writing and sharing them.

It is quite clear that Boromir misses his mother, the shared socks is a token of the love both mothers feels for their children.

Author Reply: Something as small and mundane as thick, warm socks can certainly symbolize a great deal to a child (no matter what their age.) Poor Boromir, to be so affected! And wonderful Gimli, for understanding and making his generous offer!

Squee! I knew you would manage to sneak Boromir in!
many horrifying tales of, shall I say, overexuberant protectiveness
One can only imagine. Especially with the first child. Despite the vast difference in height, I'll bet those socks fit Boromir's shapely feet because the dwarves probably have huge feet. Gimli's generous offer is right in character because he often acts against the stereotype of dwarves as greedy and secretive.

Well, how would anybody know it was my story, without Boromir?

I think these two gruff and burly warriors would have regarded each other at first with suspicion, then with growing respect and ultimately, affection. Sharing their meager supplies would just be a small part of the way they demonstrated the depth of their friendship without words. *tear*

Oh, how very sweet, being willing to share socks and the love of mothers!

Author Reply: I always imagine that these gruff warriors, once they overcame their initial mistrust, would find that they had much in common. I'm very glad you enjoyed reading these!

Do we even know how big dwarves' feet are? Now you're making me think about it!

Author Reply: They [the feet] seem as though they'd be rather large in proportion to the size of the dwarves. Dwarves always seem stocky, powerfully built (like Boromir), so it makes sense that they would have good sized feet to carry that weight. Though this could all be wishful thinking on my part, as well as Boromir's.

I’d happily share, from my mother, on behalf of yours.

That's incredibly generous. :D

Author Reply: Thank you! I enjoyed having the opportunity to write a relaxed moment between these two seemingly gruff warriors.

Are you familiar with Edoraslass's story, "Under My Wing", about the adventures of little Boromir and Faramir and their Nanny? This drabble was actually inspired by Chapter 48, "A Thankless Task", in which young Boromir refuses to learn the proper care of his clothing and equipment. He certainly had an opportunity to rue that day!
