I'm glad to see this up! I like the Day of the Soldier--I haven't given much thought as yet to the cultural conventions of Gondor, and this is full of interesting, people-centered ideas. Faramir endured so much loss, it's always nice to think of all the people who were there for him afterwards. :)

I like the concept of "the Day of the Soldier" in Gondor. Boromir would have had the right to lead the parade more in his capacity as Captain-General of Gondor, which was part of his official rank (Captain-General of Gondor, High Warden of the White Tower). I doubt that he would have led the parade from the time he came of age, though; since there is no certainty that he was given that high rank at so young an age; I would think that the honor of leading the parade would go to someone who had proven themselves in battle, not a 20-year-old, however beloved. But Boromir probably has been leading that parade for many years...

Another quibble - wouldn't future soldiers have started unofficial training before the age of 15? I would think that young boys of Minas Tirith, especially the sons of lords and soldiers, would begin learning the rudiments of swordsmanship and other weapons training, before they were even ten years old.

Nice vignette about Pippin and Merry remembering their fallen comrade.
