Yule 2006 Challenge - Gwynnyd's stories  by Gwynnyd 10 Review(s)

Gwynnyd,

Until your kind response to my review of Circumstantial Heroes, I had not realized you were the author of Bare Feet and Beer. I love that story so much I have that story linked to favorites and copied in two types of electronic files plus print.

I had not read this series of Yule Challenges and enjoyed them all.

My Choice is exactly they type of story I enjoy - those early days were full of choices/understandings/misunderstandings for everyone. The war and angst stories fulfill a purpose, but a life is so much more. The great new day when the King returned, changed everything.

Again, thank you so very much. I am not a writer, but I am a librarian. Writing is hard work! It is deeply appreciated by those of us who love stories.

It must have been like being invited to meet the Knights of the Round Table and sit down with King Arthur. Lucky Faramir - legends coming true. (But a bit intimidating having to arrange the party!)

I enjoyed all of these - delicious stuff - but I'm so behind in reviewing ...

I had Aragorn dipping into Ondoher's bridegift to his daughter Firiel to finance his wedding feasts. But, what a way to let his Steward know there WILL be a queen over Gondor and Arnor. Hee!

Very enjoyable. You capture both Aragorn and Faramir well and their initial uncertainty about each other.

What a job for Faramir. looking for a queen's crown. Wait till he gets a look at the queen to be.

Sheesh, poor Faramir. Aragorn gets the crown, the Elf-princess, the festivities, and Faramir gets the chore of trying to keep the realm solvent. Let's hope that Arwen comes with some sort of dowry.

At least Aragorn agrees to go on "progress"; which will give others, rather than the treasury of Gondor, the expense of housing and feeding him and his 'family' (let's see, the Lord and Lady of the Galadhrim, Elrond of Rivendell, various and sundry Elf-lords and other Elves, two Balrog-slayers if you count Gandalf, the new Queen, a Dwarf, and four Hobbits who could eat anyone out of house and home) in high style.

Entertaining vignette. I like Aragorn's touch of sheepishness at the end; he's smart enough to know he's costing his kingdom money as well as making Faramir uncomfortable with the duty of mentioning it.

"So many elves. These are legends, not guests to entertain. Elrond, Galadriel, Glorfindel… the Balrog-Slayer himself? Coming here?"
*snort* Poor Faramir, I could almost see his jaw drop to the floor. But I must admit that I would have done more than just squeek. ;)

"Thank you. One more thing." Aragorn smiled but his eyes gave a sheepish twitch. Faramir braced himself. "I find I do not know the simplest things. Does Gondor have a queen's crown?"
I wonder if Faramir will ever get used to Aragorn's sence of humor

"Will another round of banquets bankrupt Gondor?" ...(---50,000 dinners??!!!!)I love Aragorn's reply!

My response at looking at the list would have been, "Oh My God!! (or is it Valor?), the Balrog-slayer is your Family??!! Faramir handled himself pretty well with his squeaky voice.

This was a delight to read. Just wonderful.

I loved this. I could sympathize with Faramir's consternation - he must have seriously questioned his king's priorities, demanding another major shindig just a few months after the coronation, when the country is trying to rebuild from war. I chuckled at Aragorn's understated, "I have been expecting my family," and laughed out loud when the contents of his list were revealed. Poor Faramir. But of course the loveliest line was the last one - asking after the crown of the Queen. Well done, Gwynnyd!
