Childhood Ends  by Marnie 5 Review(s)
DeanaReviewed Chapter: Prologue on 7/30/2017
I'm just -slightly- late to the review party here. I am not sure if you will even see this, but if by chance you do, I wanted to say how much I enjoyed it. I read it years ago and on another reading it still makes me both a little happy and a little sad. Thank you for your writing.

How did you come up with this?
Terribly painful, but why, WHY?
If I was Eldarion I would never have severed my ties. All the culture and genteelity that shall be lost!
Yet, this is exactly what he did, if we assume that this is actual ancient history (and which I generally do, in the quiet of my mind or with those of similiar thinking, no need to proclaim toooo laudly and have the straight-jackets dashing my way).
Ai, but why Eldarion? Even if you gave VERY poetic a reason :
' "Eldarion I am called," he said, "'Son of the elves', yet behold, I make my mother's choice, not for myself, but for my whole realm. '
I'm sorry but I really have to rant this again, NO, NO, NO, NOOOOO! WHY??????

Author Reply: LOL! Sorry to laugh in an evil fashion over your reaction - but basically that's *exactly* why. Because it would have been less tragic and painful for that decision to be made a hundred years later by someone we don't know.

Yes, I like to assume that it's ancient history, and I wouldn't have made that choice either, but given Tolkien's theme of the way the magic is withdrawing from the world and all the splendour is being lost, I felt that it was inevitable that that would be the way it went, eventually.

LOL! Sorry! You delight my evil author's heart! Thank you!

Another great story, Marnie! And I can't help but comment how interesting that we both named Eldarion's son the same thing. ^_~

I read this and was like 'Wow'. Such a painful yet necessary...sacrifice? Also more than a little bit sad. Excellent story!

Wow... Very deep. This is quite moving and thought provoking. It was the right decision, and yet there was much to be lost from it. Great writing!
