Remembering Anew  by Pearl Took 9 Review(s)
Pip4Reviewed Chapter: 17 on 8/23/2009
I'm not finished reading this just yet but I couldn't wait any longer. This is a really cool story. I read the three chapters you had in the Pearls writing so I was intrigued when I saw this. I never had thought of Ted Sandyman or Lotho until this chapter. That was neat how you worked it all together. I also like the appearances of the ghosts. I especially like how you never mention which ghost shows up right away. It's fun trying to figure out who's talking. Anyway, it's an very innovative story and fun to read. Keep up the good work writing.

Author Reply: Sorry I'm so late replying, Pip4.

I'm so glad you are enjoying this story, it is one of my favorites. Also, thank you for the encouragement.

Some of the working of the story were there from the start, others my husband suggested, and some just popped into my head as I was writing. Thank you for feeling it all worked together so well.

Hugs,
Pearl

Yikes almighty!!! How the HECK did I miss this??? I was waiting with abated breath for *this* chapter and then missed it, lol. I've been out of it lately, so I do apologize. :-(

Well I wasn't guessing ahead like Larner, but my wishes were with hers. I was hoping that Frodo would make an appearance at some point, and I'm glad he did at the trial. I *loved* the whole part of Frodo's snake-like reflexes with Longo, lol! And the idiot still had cheek in the "face" of death.

And the anagrams were absolutely brilliant! Then again, I have come to expect that of you (and of Dreamflower). :-D Pearl, I was wrapped and spellbound the whole time I was reading this most excellent chapter.

This is SUCH a marvellous story! I do have to get ready for BS right now, though I will come back to this after I return tonight. :-D Wow...this was great!

Author Reply: *blushing* You are, as usual, too kind, dear PippinFan. No apology needed, truly :-)

I just figure ghosts should be able to move faster than we do, not being solid as it were :-)

Yes, thank goodness that Dreamflower came up with that. The other name that I had was really awful.

I'll be looking forward to your next response!!

Lovely to get home and find these posted! And new to me, as well! I'm so glad that it was *ALL* of our lads!

Well, now the Cask-/Sack connection is finally out in the open. I'd been waiting for that revelation, of course, with bated breath, and the means of the revelation was absolutely rivetting! Well done, dear!

Author Reply: I'm happy I could provide a pleasant welcome home, Dreamflower :-)

I'm so pleased that you found the revelation of your cleverness "rivetting". That really makes me feel so good :-) Thank you again for the great idea!!

I think perhaps I've been obsessing on Tolkien FAR too long--since 1963-64 at least, you realize. Oh, how wonderful to find I'm correct on all counts! And the anagram and synonym usage is wonderful!

So, this is a long-standing plot to make Frodo lose what little honor he ever received within the Shire, and to make Pippin and Sam look ridiculous, although there wasn't much they could truly do to belittle Sam, for he always tried hiding his Light under a bushel, I fear.

As for the prize--let me think on that, for I'm certain I'll think of a good one; only beware, as I've found several of what I thought were plotbunnies running about the place have actually been immature nuzguls, as I've said recently.

Am so glad all FOUR of them at the end showed up at this trial, and that the nasty little conspiracy has been fully unmasked.

And I still grieve that THE Redbook was lost, and that so many of Sam's descendants gave over their ancestor's hard-fought grace and honor to belittle what they held in their midst, leaving it unread for years.

Author Reply: You have me beaten on length of time as a Tolkien obsessive - I first read Tolkien (being LOTR) in 1966.

Long-standing indeed, almost back to when Sam, Merry and Pippin were still in the Shire. The un-hobbitiness of their family backgrounds followed them.

All four was all that seemed right, how could I leave anyone out?

The Red Book being lost is Tolkien's fault - if he hadn't said that it had been lost I wouldn't have had to lose it.

I've done some looking about and to be honest, I can't figure out what the difference is between plotbunnies and nuzguls. If you know, could you write me @
radicalmomssr@yahoo.com and explain it *embarrassed Pearl*.

Thank you so much for your faithful reading and responding, Larner, and congratulations on figuring out my plot twists! :-)

WOW! WOW, WOW, WOW, WOW, WOW!!!!!! SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! WAAAAY TOO COOL! OMG! Pearl this is amazing!! I love it! All 4 Travelers are there!?!? and the Letter! SHAZAM!

I am so proud of what this has become... you are wonderful, and I can't wait to see how it all ends!

Author Reply: aw shucks *embarrassed blushing*. Thank you, Daynawayna, for nudging and for reading and responding so faithfully! :-) This has turned out to be quite the ride!

I love this: (The ghost of Meriadoc turned and gave them all a wink. Pippin continued happily on.) Even as a ghost, Pippin can't keep still! I also loved Merry's wink. The entire chapter was excellent. I was glad that all four ghosts got in on the action. Unlike Larner, I thought the first ghost was Merry. I have no Took sight at all in these matters.

Author Reply: Larner has been spooky with this story! I'm beginning to wonder if she's a long lost twin to me or something. LOL!

I'm so glad you liked that part, GW :-) Those two *do* like having fun.

Thank you so much for everything, GW!

And your sources can't get much more primary than someone - or several someones - who were actually there at the time.

Descendants of Lotho Sackville-Baggins and Ted Sandyman's sister. Well, that explains a lot. Although she must have brainwashed the boys, since even natural nastyness wouldn't have been enough to pervert them without a constant diet of how much better the Shire would have been without the vile Travellers stealing power back from Daddy Lotho.

Definitely a good thing that Marjy and Athelas managed to save those sources - and find the secret notes. And that Macimas was prepared to read them out to the whole assembly.

I wonder how Longo will react to the revelations.

Author Reply: They are indeed as primary as I could find ;-)

I'm not sure if Daisy brainwashed them or just told them a lot about the families they came from. Having a daddy who had pretty much taken over the Shire and an uncle who had been in good with him could stir a lot of anger when mixed with the reduced circumstances the boys end up raised in. That might all be another story . . .

The powers that be took care of things well with what got found and what got kept.

I don't think Longo takes it very well, hehehe

Thanks so much, Bodkin :-)

My goodness! I knew Frodo would be the first ghost to appear, I hoped I was right - and I was! And the secretaries were Lotho's offspring! My goodness again, this explains a lot. This explains in fact everything! *stares wide-eyed, babbling with excitement*

OH WOW!

I am speechless - at least nearly.

Cúthalion

Author Reply: Cool, Cuthalion! You also figured on it being Frodo :-) I'm so glad you feel it explains everything, I had hoped it would.

Thank you so much for all your kind words :-) I'm so glad it satisfied.

How intricate and brilliant, Pearl! This is quite a revelation. I'm so happy all four of the Travellers came to the "real" trial.

Author Reply: Thank you so much, dear shirebound! A brilliant :-) Thank you! They insisted, none of them wanted to miss it ;-)
