Yes, I'd say indeed that he needed that kiss--needed it rather desperately. Glad he accepted it.

Still enjoying this very much!

Author Reply: Thanks! I'm still enjoying writing it very much!

I love that Diamond has some of the Sight that is often attributed to Pippin.

I also liked the description of how her eyes change, and especially how while so sick all the green is gone and she is pure Baggins, and uncannily like his beloved Frodo, though that brings him pain, and fear. My daughter has green/blue eyes that change with her moods and health as well, and I, who have boring brown eyes that are always brown no matter what, find her changing eye color endlessly fascinating.

And one last note - I wish we had dances like they do in your story, where everybody in the community gets together, and the different dances are known by name and step, and are danced specifically. I think we miss out not having such times together anymore.

Really enjoying this, Gryffinjack. And I forgot to be watching - did I miss the strange contraption and pouch of money? I notice this chapter has different elements to include. I got caught up in the story and forgot to pay attention. That's quite a compliment!

Author Reply: In my universe, both Pippin and Diamond have the gift of Sight, as does Frodo. It is a characteristic of the faerie blood in Tooks that only a few hobbits of Took descent possess. For example, although Merry is half-Took, he does not posess the gift of Sight, although he has a little of the faerie blood magic in him which is seen in his cheery disposition. It is the faerie blood magic that also makes both Pippin and Diamond shimmer (and Frodo, too, to a lesser extent).

I'm so glad to hear about your daughter's eyes! I've only known one person with eyes like Diamond's - eyes so unusual that I was not able to forget them. My niece's friend had greenish-blue eyes, but when she was sick or tired, they were clear blue. I thought that worked very well for someone who was half North-Took and half Baggins. I'm very interested to hear what colour your daughter's eyes are in her various moods, such as when she is happy or excited. Unfortunately, my eyes are boring brown as well.

Yes, it would be wonderful if we still did those old dances like they used to do! It brings everyone together in the community.

No, you did not miss the strange contraption and the pouch of money. The elements from Marigold's Challenge #33 will not be seen until near the end of the story, whereas I included all of the elements I was givent for Challenge #34 in this chapter. I'm glad I was able to make you pay attention to the story and forget about the elements!

I really appreciate all of your lovely reviews!

What a delightful beginning to their relationship! Pip was so sweet and helpful, and your account of her accomplishment just made me smile. It's so *satisfying* to do something yourself you've never done before! And it's nice that tree climbing is something the two of them still enjoy doing together. They're like a couple of elves, lol. In fact, the memory of the 3 boys playing in the tree like that made me think of wood-elf children playing.

I'm glad Pippin was able to distract himself from those last few miles remembering such happy times together, and that he's finally there.

Author Reply: Thank you! Diamond was indeed quite happy with herself for finally climbing a tree. I think Pippin and Diamond will be climbing trees until they are so old and their bones are so brittle that it becomes too dangerous to climb! lol!

I am thrilled at your comparison of Diamond and Pippin (as well as Diamond's brothers) to elves! It's one aspect of the faerie blood inherited by the Tooks (and North-Tooks).

Hmmmm, no strange contraption, lace-up bodice or pouch full of money yet. I'm interested to see where they come in, and what adventures befalls Pippin and his Diamond.

Poor Pippin, to know so intimately how nasty and how seriuos Winter Sickness is, and to be so far away from his love while she fights it. Thank heavens for modern transportation for when need is dire!

Author Reply: Nope - none of those elements in this chapter. I'm afraid you won't see the strange contraption, lace-up bodice, and pouch full of money fore several chapters yet.

It really is difficult for Pippin to know just what Diamond is going through, as well as to know that she might not survive. I'm sure Pippin would have loved to have been able to hop a plane and be at Diamond's side in half an hour! lol!

I'm quite enjoying this so far - jsut read the first three chapters. I like that in this Pippin and Diamond have been friends since childhood, and have happy memories to fall back on - and it's clear that they're very much in love.

Just lovely.

Author Reply: I am quite relieved that you find that it is so clear that my Pippin and Diamond are very much in love. It's important to me that it come across in the story that they were meant for each other, as I envision their relationship to be quite magical.

I'm enjoying creating all of these memories for Pippin and Diamond, although they decided to take over the chapter and write the scene with their first kiss.

Thanks for your lovely review.

A wonderful memory to have of assisting through instruction and not doing too much for her. And Diamond and he have that to share for the rest of their lives. Am so glad he's finally made it with the assistance of these wonderful memories.

Author Reply: Happy memories do help make time go by quicker, and Pippin has many happy memories of the times he has spent with Diamond. However, I'm sure he could not reach her side soon enough to suit him.

Pippin is a very intelligent hobbit who is also quite sensitive to the needs of others. I'm glad you approved of the amount of help he gave Diamond with climbing the tree.

Thanks for reviewing!

Aha, an interesting beginning here. Now, to see what adventures lurk along the way there to Long Cleeve and back.

Author Reply: It should be a long road until the end of this story and you never know what adventures might lurk along the way. Thanks for reading and reviewing!
