Promises To Keep  by Shieldmaiden of Rohan 2 Review(s)

I love the image of Eowyn standing in the moonlit snow. And for all Faramir is protective of her, she is just as protective of him. They make a lovely couple.

"..the woods are lovely, dark and deep, but I have promises to keep"...
I believe this is where your title came from? Lovely picture of one of my favorite fictional couples. I am not one of those fans of an Eowyn-Aragorn pairing. Some of those people have written very good stories, too. But I just think that Eowyn and Faramir were made for each other. And I think that the scene of Tolkien's where they kiss on top of the wall of the city is one of the most romantic in all literature. You have captured well his feeling that something was not right without her there, and their quiet moments together in the dark woods. Lovely, lovely images!

And, welcome back!

Author Reply: Yes, that was where the title came from. One of my favorite poems ever (and even so, the title had to be suggested to me! But I think it fits wonderfully.)

I'm definitely not an Eowyn/Aragorn fan. I can see how, if someone had seen the movies first, they could have those leanings. But I'm hard pressed to see how anyone who read the books could think that Eowyn and Faramir are anything but perfect for each other. (That "Steward and the King" chapter is one of the few literary moments that consistently gives me mushy girly moments, so you KNOW it's got to be good!)

And thanks. It's good to be back. :)
