*sneaking back for a quick reply* Hey, you deserved every bit of encouragement given, Dot!!

Author Reply: *blushes* Thanks :-)

I just went and looked you up and found your two stories that I know I’ve read before but am really looking forward to re-reading! I’m going to try to make sure I read “Through all of these years” on my lunch-break tomorrow and will then have the longer one to peruse for the rest of the week. See, it’s at times like this that I really wish I had more time for reading!! I should have a word with my boss…

Isn't it odd that the sacrifice of Haldir and the other Lorien warriors has gone relatively unmentioned in fanfiction? I can think of only one other story based on the movie battle, until this one (of course, there are probably dozens, and I've missed them all!). That moment in TTT when the first elven warrior falls from the wall, and later when Haldir dies is one of the most wrenching things in the movie, at least for me. And one has to wonder if help might not have been sent, especially with Galadriel and Lothlorien being fairly close. This is a terribly sad story, and you have done a wonderful job relating the utter weariness, both physical and emotional, faced by both Aragorn and Legolas, but especially Legolas. I've been reading your stories for the last hour or so (don't know how I missed them, as I read and reviewed the parting of Legolas with Thranduil and LOVED it, but...there ya' go...am making up for my oversight now!)and have been captivated by your ability to convey strong emotions in your characters. This may have been short, and yes I would have loved for a longer story, but it is powerful as is, and so very sad....*sniff* Well done, Dot!

Author Reply: Crikey, Linda. What a wonderful surprise I got today when I saw all your reviews in my inbox! It was incredibly generous of you to go to all the bother.

It’s really strange getting reviews for my first ever stories! I think there are a few other stories out there about the movie battle – although none spring to mind! I was just as surprised as most people to see the elves arrive at Helm’s Deep but to be honest, I thought that really added to the film. I agree with you about that moment when Haldir dies. It really stuck more than anything how very wrong it must have seemed that so many elves were killed so I wanted to show Legolas’ reaction, which I would have loved to have seen in the film... I’m so glad you think it worked! Thanks a million for the review.

The title is so appropriate. You did a good job of describing how tiring a desperate and devastating battle can be, both physically and mentally.

It was so sad when Legolas told Aragorn that he wasn't wounded except in his heart and also, of course, when Legolas breaks down at the end. I'm glad Aragorn was there with him.

Very well done.

Author Reply: Oh, thank you! It's so great to get a review for my first ever attempt at fanfic! That's exactly what I was hoping to show, that deep tiredness when you stop fighting and try to take in all that has happened. I thought if PJ was going to have Elves appear, then their sacrifice should be acknowledged and I figured if anything would overcome Legolas' strength, this would. It seemed fitting that Aragorn would return the support Legolas has shown him.

Thanks again for such a kind review. :-)

It was short, nonetheless beautiful. How you managed to portray the emotions so well. The grieving of Legolas. I'd preferred it a bit longer, but it's good. :)

Author Reply: Thank you so much. I'm glad you enjoyed it and I really appreciate you taking the time to let me know. I'll take the fact that you wish it was longer as a huge compliment! Actually, it's the first one I ever wrote so there's probably a lot of room for improvement. Thanks again :-)

An excellent and beautiful job dealing with the griefing that was so very absent in the movie. Thank you for sharing it with us.

I really liked what you did with this story. What happened after Helm's deep is something that we hardly read, yet it offers so much potential to write about! You really captivated the emotions of all those involved! Well done!!
