| I'm "Sam" in Elanor's Letters. And I wanted to say thank you for this visual. My heart keeps breaking over and over. After I read this first part, it made me think of Jesus! Ya' know how when you get angry at your brother, it means you've really murdered him/her? Well...I was thinking of how many stupid times I do that, every day; I "kill" one of my dearest friends all the time, every day.....I keep picturing myself over by little brother's body, with Frodo's elven cloak on, and Sting in my hand, piercing his throat......then I see Jesus walk up and suddenly, there's a sort of delay, then I'm slicing at Him and not my bro. And after I've done it.....it's too late; I've already killed Jesus. I have asked both my brother and Jesus to forgive me, now and I'm trying to be better, but I just.....thank you so much for that visual!! | Oh wow - what a gem I left hiding in my in tray and thank you for the dedication. Sorry I am so late in getting back to you. Very AU - I can't believe you actually did it! Of course without a physically present Sam Frodo would need Faramir and his Rangers. But he isn't without his Sam even now. Sam is helping to keep him going, (and the Other of course). I loved the sentence near the beginning but his heart broke to realize there was nothing to reach. There are many plot points crying out for a chapter on their own from this as someone has already pointed out. However, as you have already gone very AU how about having Frodo going into the fire with the ring? Or is this one step too far? Author Reply: I was wondering when you'd read this! :) No way was Sam going to leave his Frodo...love is stronger than death. Do you have any ideas you'd like to see developed? | Oops! I meant to write comments underneath the quotes, but I hit the post button accidentally. I really liked how Faramir sees more and more just how evil the Ring is and how he vows not to let it effect him or take it from Frodo. I also like the "conversations" between Sam, Illuvatar, and Frodo. My only comment is that Gandalf was alive again by this point in the film. When he spoke of resting in the arms of the Creator, did he use the present tense so as not to reveal to Frodo that he returned to Life? Or did he mean something along the line that one always rests in the arms of the Creator (whether alive or not), as being held by him especially in times of hardship and need? Just wondering and I really hope you become inspired to continue this one! May God shine His Light upon you. ~Elemmírë~ | |

| What love can he still have? came the bitter response. I killed him. I killed that love. No, you cannot kill his love. That is a thing eternal. As is the love of the One Who made you. Then I don’t deserve it anymore. But you are still going to receive it. You cannot carry this burden alone. I don’t want to carry it at all. Who else would you appoint then? You were chosen for this, only you. There is no one else. Would you truly want someone else to carry it? There was a long pause, then a very soft, No. "I’ll help you get to the Fire,” Faramir said, convinced as never before the evil power of the Ring had to be destroyed. If it could destroy his strong brother, if it could tear apart two people as dear to each other as these two halflings were, he didn’t even want to imagine what it would do if unleashed on an entire city. It could certainly go on and there are ideas I want to explore further, but so far the muse has not enlightened me. I am certainly open to suggestions on how to proceed! You must certainly continue this, Antane! :D Here are some of the ideas I thought of that might help you to continue, depending on how far/long you want this to go. -Does the Ring still go into the fire the same way? -When very near death after the melting of the Ring, what makes Frodo choose life again instead of joining his Sam in death? -A scene where Frodo questions Gandalf as to why the wizard could return from death but not Sam. -Frodo revisitng Sam's grave with Faramir, Gandalf, and possibly Aragorn, Merry, Pippin, Legolas, and Gimli. Frodo goes there to plant Sam a garden. -An epilogue where Frodo telling the Gaffer of Sam's death, his deeds, and unfailing love. Author Reply: A horribly belated but very heartfelt thank you for all your kind words and especially these lovely ideas! *hugs* I will be using some, if not all, of them. The thing that stumped me what was what would happen at the fire - would it be any different now that Sam is in heaven (as well as being at his brother's side) - would he be able to lend any extra 'moral support' that he couldn't have if he had been there physically? I figure Iluvatar must have allowed this great evil of Sam's death to serve Him somehow, to bring good out of it. I just don't know what that is yet. Any ideas? And what would make Frodo want to live after the Ring is gone? I love the idea of going back to visit the grave with his friends and planting a garden and also asking Gandalf about why he could come back and Sam not. That could be a very cool conversation! If you have any other ideas, you know where to find me! :) To answer your question about Gandalf resting in His Creator's arms, yes, I meant the second way of thinking of it - that all good people rest there, even when alive. | Oh, Antane, no! Please! No! Oh, *why* did I have to say that?! Well, okay, you've proved me wrong all right, and shone that you are the master of angst. I'll never doubt you again. I have not cried that hard over a story since I don't even know when. Part of my heart begs that it be a dream, or something, a nightmare of Frodo's. And the other part knows it can't be. Oh, it's just more than heartbreaking! Please, please don't end it here! Please, get Frodo to the fire and let him and Sam be reunited somehow. But really the ending is going to be sad either way, because Frodo's cousins will grieve if he follows Sam. Yet, what would become of him without that one who so helped him to heal? I can't think about it any more. I do like the interaction between Frodo, Sam, Gandalf and Iluvatar, and Faramir of course. Sam protects his Frodo still...*tear* God bless, Galadriel Author Reply: Hantenyel, ammelda!
