Awesome story. I love Merry h/c (and you write the best Merry h/c!) and i especially love the fact that you went from past to present...that is very awesome story-telling. :) Glad to see Sam in there taking care of Merry too. :) ANd cousin moments are always wonderful to read as well.
And welcome back again, dear! i really missed you!
Hope Crickhollow will get updated soon too. :)

This is wonderful. I loved every word. My favorite line was:
(The green eyes that met his bore an expression similar to Frodo’s and Merry poured his own heart into his own eyes as they looked at each other.) The discription seems so very right and says so much.
I like the way you went back and forth between Merry's memories and what was happening in the present to tell the story. Lovely all around!

Author Reply: thank you! I'm happy you liked it. It took me quite a while to write but I am glad the result wasn't too confusing, lol.

Wow! Lots of angst! And cousinly love and care! I really liked the way that Pippin still held onto Merry's hand while both of them were ill, it was certainly a soothing anchor for Merry, and for Pip as well.

The rescue was very exciting, and that Merry wasn't sure exactly what had happened was very tantalising.

I loved the care and love that Paladin and Eglantine showed to Merry. I especially liked the brief glimpse that we saw of Paladin sitting by Merry's bedside. It gave me a wonderful sense of their relationship in your universe.

Thank you so much for writing this lovely story for us!

Author Reply: Thanks dear! Merry angst is really what I do best so I'm glad you didn't "prescribe" anything else, lol. I think Pip would hold on to Merry no matter what really, they both needed it.

I like Paladin and Eglantine so I thought it would be a nice thing to bring them into the story as well.

I'm glad you enjoyed it and you're very welcome! :D

Wow Anso, such angst, the like of which we seldom see in Merry, (except when us Merry writers are writing it!:))

Poor Merry he is so confused, did he save Pip? Did he cause Pip to drown? What happened, and it is so hard for him to work it all out while his fever is raging and he can't keep awake for five minutes at a time!

Then to add to the worry, confusion and fever, he is consumed with guilt that he did not look after Pip as well as he might. Having Eglantine come to mop the poor lad's fevered brow was so sweet, especially as Merry thinks she may be cross with him. Or worse, not let him look out for Pippin in the future! Gasp! Where would that leave us all - no can't have that happen now!

Interweaving the waking with the dream of what happened gave the story a flow, which, as it was about a river, seems v. appropriate.

A lovely story - thank you so much for writing it and thank you for the dedication!

Author Reply: Thanks dear! We Merry writers have to do what we can, don't we, lol? I'm happy you liked it! :D

*applause*

Well done, Anso!

I liked how you went back and forth with Merry trying to recall what had happened and I liked how you handled why he ended up confused about losing his hold on Pippin. Very Well Done!

Yay, Anso's back! And with some new Merry h/c as well. I love seeing Frodo and Pippin looking after him :)

Author Reply: Well, I had to make up for the long leave didn't I, lol? :D

Welcome back, Anso! So good to see you! :-D This is a wonderful story--I had to read it in two sessions, lol. Poor Merry got the rough end of the deal. Tries to save his little cousin and ends up very ill for his reward. I was happy that Frodo and Mr. Burrows were there to help pull both Merry and Pippin out of the water. That Pippin and his ideas, lol--gets into trouble (almost) every time! :-)

Author Reply: Thank you! Pip does always manage to get into trouble, doesn't he? I am glad you liked the confusion, lol!

Awww. I had to read at top speed, but still managed to thoroughly enjoy this. You started us out as confused as Merry! ...gradually casting light on the picture, until we knew what was happening. And the flashbacks kept adding little bits of additional light, in just the right amounts.

You do a marvellous job of portraying the relationships between the cousins.

It is nice to have you back.

Author Reply: Thanks, Lin! I'm glad you liked my confused story, lol. It's good to be back, although I'll be scarce since I only can come online when I go home to my own place and that is every third or fourth week or something like that. I hope for more frequent internet access though but I don't know when that will happen.

Welcome back, Anso, and what a lovely story! Merry being lovingly tended by his cousins, the intricate way you weave us (and Merry) from the past to the present and back again... Very nice!

“Here, let me,” Pippin said, taking the spoon and filling it. “You’ve fed me on more than enough occasions. It’s time I got to feed you.” He smiled and said brightly: “Open.”

Awwwww. :D

Author Reply: Hehe. Thank you! :D

Ah! Poor. brave Merry. Actually it is quite refreshing seeing Merry being the one who is so ill. I enjoyed the way you presented this Anso.

Author Reply: Thank you! Poor Merry indeed. Yes, I like to make him suffer and then have his cousins take care of him. :)
