Have you considered writing some kind of sequel? For the ending of the story certainly indicates that there could be something more.

Anyway, I liked it. Nice, short and really sweet story. I can only imagine how big eyes Legolas would have if he heard of this or how wide open would be the jaws of the girls if they saw their "hero".

What a lovely melancholy-yet-satisfying ficlet.

Thank you - the feeling that it is a re-telling of a lost tale is strong through JRRT's work (author intention and all that aside - I want to believe!).
Thanks again

Author Reply: Oh, thanks! I love it when stories come out the way I intended them ;) One of the things that most drew me when I first read Tolkien's books was the sense of tales within tales, people living in long-ago history, who have their own legends. It helped to make it all seem more real to me, oddly enough. Thanks again for reviewing =)

Lovely bedtime story - changed as stories do change, but yet still close enough. The storyteller is definitely a Person of Interest, with more connection to those long past tales than most.

And the watcher should certainly seek out those in the west to whom these are memories rather than myths. He needs his own people ... and I suspect there are those waiting for him.

Author Reply: Thank you! I'm so glad that you enjoyed it. And you are right about the watcher...I have a feeling I might be hearing more from him =)

well, seeing as how I was right on Clelborn, I'm going to take that as license to ask for a sequel, maybe one where Celeborn meets Legolas in the Undying Lands and tells him a bit about the legends that came up about him?

Just a thought....

cheers, merimas

Author Reply: Story requests always welcome ;)
I quite like that idea...I'm seeing it as a humour fic, but will have to see if it develops and if so what it turns out like =) Thanks for the suggestion!

P.S. I also had to wonder if the storyteller in the first chapter was more than he appeared?

Author Reply: Glad you liked the viewpoint switch, by the way: the epilogue wasn't planned at all, it was just one of those times when the pen keeps on moving.
As far as the storyteller goes, at the time I wrote it, I did have a half-formed notion that there was something special about him and in particular his mother (who, if you remember, was the one who told him the Legolas legend) but so far nothing has come of it—I suppose it's another of those gaps that could be filled, or left unexplored =)

Author Reply: It seems I managed to be extremely stupid and delete your lovely review *clocks self round head* I can't remember if SoA emails review replies, but in case they don't and so you can't see what I said, I really appreciated the review, despite subsequent idiocy ;) Thanks!

Fantastic story! I had to think about it for a few minutes, but my best guess is also Celeborn as the hooded figure. The viewpoint switched so wonderfully unexpectedly. I'm definitely going to save this one in my favorites, I know I'll want to come back to it...good stories so quickly become like old friends, don't they? Worth visiting again and again...thank you for this one!

Author Reply: Thank you! You are completely right about favourite stories—there are some wonderful ones that I come back to over and over because I know they'll take me away somewhere or just make me feel good =) I'm so glad you enjoyed this one and honoured that you want to save it!

ok, I've got to know: who's the mysterous cloaked figure? My best guess is Celeborn, but did you have someone else in mind?

Fantastic story by the way. It reminds me of the bit in FOTR about how "Mad Baggins" live on a a popular character in children's stories long after the real events of his life were forgotton.

Cheers, Merimas

Author Reply: Thanks for taking the time to review! I'm glad you enjoyed the story—I hadn't thought of that comparison with the "Mad Baggins" tales, but it's exactly the same idea. As far as the cloaked figure goes: good guess-work ;)
