Middle-earth Express Prompts  by Misty 2 Review(s)

To see the Ring so consuming Smeagol as he is transformed into Gollum is horrible. Not his friend, and solely because he wouldn't give Smeagol what he'd found in the depths of the river. And so, Deagol became gone, gone, gone.

Tragic.

Author Reply: Yes, Smeagol was truly one of the most tragic characters in all of the LOTR trilogy. The ring had a firm hold on him from the moment he laid eyes on it, and he never had the power to fight off its corrupting influence.

Ooh you really made me feel for Smeagol in just a few short words. The sense of him losing himself is strong and hurts a lot! It makes me send up a prayer for addicts everywhere.

Author Reply: You know, when I was writing it, I didn't even think of the parallel to addicts. But yes, that is a good analogy. Smeagol ended up giving up everything and turning his back on everything he had ever known in his obsession with the ring. I'm glad to know that the emotions touched you in this way. Thanks.
