Right to Fight  by Misty 2 Review(s)
harrowcatReviewed Chapter: 1 on 6/22/2006
This is a nice gap-filler Misty. I still wonder what Tolkien thought about the choice he gave Eowyn. And I also wonder what the people of Rohan did without her to lead them at home.

Author Reply: In a way, I think Eowyn was being a little selfish in riding off to battle and leaving her people without a clear leader in the absence of her entire family. I realize Tolkien had a reason for giving her that choice, and that she had to be there to deal with the witch king, but I do kind of question her choice. Though I didn't really agree with her, I did try to get into her head and see what might have prompted her to make the choice she did.

Very well done, Misty. I think you did a really good job of capturing Eowyn's feelings there. It would have been so frustrating to have been so well trained and then to be just pushed aside at the last. I like how you started it when she did not like the fact that she had to go in secret... to deceive others, I'm sure that would have been hard for a proud young woman like her.

Author Reply: Well, I do think that her frustration led her to do something that she might not have otherwise. I can fully see her riding off to battle, but not in the guise of another. If she had truly been able to have her way, she would have gone openly as herself, riding with her brother and uncle at the head of the armies, not skulking about in the ranks trying to avoid notice. Thanks for the review.
