The Gift  by Elemmírë 11 Review(s)
Queen GaladrielReviewed Chapter: 3 on 8/11/2006
Oh, this is marvellous! How very like Bilbo, and what a wonderful, thoughtful gift! I wonder if Frodo kept that pack all those years and took it with him on the quest? And do we get to hear about their first walking trip sometime? :)

Bilbo is such a wonderful guardian. You capture him so perfectly here.
God bless,
Galadriel

Author Reply: You hit it right on the nail! I was indeed describing the very pack Frodo wore in the film version of FOTR, along with his green cloak. Bilbo made sure his heir was prepared for whatever the future may hold.

I hadn't planned on writing a sequel to this ... at least not right away. I would be lying to say I haven't thought of it, however. I will certainly tuck the idea away in my list of plot bunnies for the future. Is there anything special you would like to see happen or anything in particular you would like focused on? If so, drop me an email. (as you've no doubt realized, I love to write about Bilbo and Frodo)

Thank you so much for reading and reviewing, Queen Galadriel. Take care!

Lovely story! I love being with him before the Shadow touched him, when all was bright and innocent and carefree. He was never not surrounded by love, his parent's, Bilbo's, Merry's, Pippin's, Sam's and especially his Creator's. Lucky, lucky, lucky!

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: You've put it perfectly, Antane ... and all you need is love.

May God's Light shine upon you. :)

What sweet love! Such a beautiful lad... :) So delightfully small.

Namarie, God bless, Antane

Author Reply: Aren't wee hobbits just the cutest!! I know, I know, Frodo is a tween in this story ... but just barely and he isn't a full-grown hobbit yet. Like Bilbo says, enjoy doing the things with the small ones before they're too big to do anymore (like carrying).

Thanks for reading and reviewing, Antane!!!

This was a delightful story, and Frodo's gift was the perfect one from his beloved Bilbo! I love all the care and detail you take in so lovingly describing the pack and its contents--hobbits and presents just go together, don't they?

Author Reply: Thank you, Dreamflower! I agree, hobbits and presents go very well together. LOL!!

Bilbo thought out every detail of this particular mathom for Frodo. He wanted this gift to be one that Frodo would always remember and be able to use for many years to come.

As I replied to Shirebound, this gift also signified the love and special relationship between the two hobbits, old and young. It was a way for Bilbo to share all his knowledge with the one who was willing to listen and learn from him, without thinking Bilbo mad.

For Frodo, the pack and its accessories allowed him to see how much Bilbo loves him, wants him at Bag End, and trusts him enough to think him mature and responsible for such a mathom and outing.

Thanks always for reading and reviewing, Dreamflower!

P.S. Stay tuned for an upcoming series which will involve another special mathom of wee Frodo's.

Shirebound recced this story in her journal, and I am so glad she did. What a lovely, loving story of Bilbo and Frodo. I enjoyed it so much.

Author Reply: Wow!! That was quite the surprise for me to find my story listed on her LJ! I'm glad you enjoyed and I hope you might read some of my other tales as well, while on SoA. They're mostly about Frodo and Bilbo.

Thank you so much for reading and reviewing!

That is a truly perfect gift, and a wonderful story!

*applauds*

Author Reply: *Bows ... and grins madly*

Thank you so very much, Shirebound! Bilbo's allowance of Frodo traveling with him through the Shire was akin to achieving a milestone while growing up for the young tween. Frodo comes to realize that Bilbo sees him as a mature and responsible enough young hobbit, and not just as some reckless tween, which he had been considered when living at Brandy Hall. This particular gift also shows Frodo just how much Bilbo loves him by the personal thought put into it, along with how much his uncle trusts him. Frodo knows that Bilbo cares for him and truly listens to him. Frodo does his best to reciprocate.

For Bilbo, his gift to Frodo represents many things, but mainly the special bond between a father and son (even if it's by adoption). Bilbo finally has someone he can hand down all the vast knowledge he has gained over the years of his long life ... someone who respects him for who he is and what he's accomplished, and someone who _wants_ to learn from him and doesn't mind being with him (or being seen with him.)

However, Bilbo also wants Frodo to be prepared for anything he may encounter in the future ... for one just never knows when a wizard may wander to your front door and whisk you away on an Adventure!

Thank you for reading and reviewing, Shirebound. And, I am happy that you enjoyed this story to reccommend it to others in your LJ. It's an honor to one who admires all _your_ tales and who helped to inspire me to write my own. (Are you blushing yet? LOL!) Namarie.

Oh.... I want to go too. My pack is sitting in the corner all packed and ready!
This was fun and touching.

Seriously, I have just bought a new tent and am dying to try it out but work is keeping me so busy I don't have a day spare until July!

Author Reply: Sure! Come along! The more hobbits for a walking party, the better! I think you might have to share your tent with Shirebound and a few others though, if they want to join Frodo and Bilbo too. LOL!!!

I hope you get to try out your new tent soon! I know exactly what it means about getting a new toy to play with, but being unable to use it right away :(

As always, thanks for reading and reviewing, Harrowcat. (I hope it was well worth the wait)

Eeee, what is it? But whatever it is, I'm enjoying all the love in this story. :D

Author Reply: (folds hands behind back, rocks on toes, and whistles innocently)

All I can say is this, Shirebound: since you're enjoying all the love, I think that the wait will most definitely be worth it in the end. And that's all I'm going to say .... excpet for thank you for reading and reviewing!! ;)

harrowcatReviewed Chapter: 2 on 6/17/2006
Oh....great....now don't go teasing the rest of us and keep us waiting tooooooo long!

Author Reply: But where's the fun in just posting the next chapter right away??? No, it's more suspenseful drawing it out, I think. (snickers)

Seriously, I should be posting the final chapter in which all is revealed very, very soon. Thanks for reading and reviewing, Harrowcat!
