Little Lad Lost  by Citrine 18 Review(s)

....and a few licks about the shoulders with her umbrella"... I do have to admire the old gal. she may have been a frustrated social climber, but the girl and her umbrella stood up to ruffian men twice her size during the Troubles. By this time she had lost Otho, and even for a sharp tongued person like her, Lotho must have been a disappointment. Because of the ruffian men he invited into the Shire, even once she got her beloved Bag End she was not able to enjoy it very long. And in the end, she even lost Lotho. You have made her real and sympathetic. And your Posy is such a dear. I have no doubt that some time soon she will go to Bag End with the booties and have tea with the Gamgee children. There must have been some good hearts like her in the Shire for the four Travelers to have thought there was something worth saving. And you have Frodo trying to thank her with the same respect with which he later assisted her and her umbrella out of the Lockholes, to the cheering of the gathered Hobbits. Well and sweetly done!

That is a great ending to this Citrine. Like all good humour there is an element of blackness, of saddness to it too.

Awwww....poor old Lobelia...well, that was sweet and cute altogether! Thanks for a delightful story!

Well, all's well that ends well, and Lobelia is stuck with only Lotho, but at least she's not a cradle-snatcher, thanks to Frodo's "diplomacy". *grin*

I love the image of Merry "shaking her hand like a pumphandle"--I could just see that!

Dear me! I'm sorry to see this end, but I suppose it could not realistically have been dragged out much longer. *sigh*

Author Reply: *Chiming in a bit late*

Weeeeell, no. But I foresee a possible epilogue;-)

Oh Citrine, this was so sweet!! To see Lobelia being even the least bit sweet was such a different thing. And the end, with her thinking sadly of all of wee Pippin's baby-ness was perfect. A wonderful tale indeed :)

Author Reply: Thanks, Pearl! Shoot, this is Pippin we're talking about here-who *wouldn't* fall in love with the little rascal, even Lobelia? Even the grouchiest old b...er, broad...er, dame can have a soft spot.

Oh golly! LOL! This little story is just so funny and adorable. I am far from a Lobelia admirer, but I will have to say--your version of her is *almost* likable!

As for Lotho, I have to say the reactions of little Pimpernel and Pervinca are perfectly understandable. I'd feel that way about his smile too.

But I don't think that Paladin and Eglantine will be all that accommadating to Lobelia's plan, LOL!

Author Reply: Thanks, Dreamflower! I've been a closet Lobelia admirer for a long time:o) Anybody who would go after Ruffians more than twice her size armed with nothing but a bumbershoot is my kind of gal.

I promise you, dear, I am awake today. i very much enjoyed parts two and three, but on looking back I was so tired trying to write about them that I know I muddled the two together. this one should be better.
"whenever there was trouble at Bag End, there was Lotho like a rain cloud at a picnic". Darling! Then, even though he failed at math in school, he could see that things could add up to trouble. But he just is not smart enough to talk to the grownups, instead of two little lasses around sixish.I loved the image of Bell Gamgee racing to the rescue. i am sure that Sam had to get his courage from somewhere. And then, the end, "his mother was on her own"! Too funny! I wonder, though, once the little girls settle down, maybe one of them might say that Lotho had been teasing them about finding their lost brother. That might get everybody stirred up again! Only one part left?
I am sure it will be a busy one!

Author Reply: Aw shoot, you did just fine, Demeter:o) Lotho was just so desperate to avoid becoming a big brother, he grabbed whatever Took he could find. Thanks so much for reading and reviewing all this!

oops. I seem to have run a bit of two and three together. It is fun in this one to see the older cousin marshalling his troops for a search. As I said before, Sam and his sisters are always well-behaved, indeed,"well-brought up". I liked the Gaffer's voice in Sam's head, telling him to watch how he talks. Indeed, they will need at least Frodo's help to deal with Lobelia, if not Eglantine's. I would like to see what Lotho has to say when his mother tells him she intends to adopt the little one. For that matter,I would like th see what Paladin and the Grandpa, the Thain, have to say about that! this is getting good!

so "respectable infants are not found under gooseberry bushes". I wonder if the heir to the heir of the current Thain is respectable enough for our favorite social-climbing Hobbitess? I enjoyed the description of poor Posey and her sad memories, and watching her bring out the fussy little baby clothes. I am sure our little Pippin would be out of something like that in a flash! As usual, Sam and his sisters are well behaved and polite. I quess the poor dears will have to get a grown-up to deal with Lobelia. I laughed through this whole thing. I can hardly wait to see what comes next!
