Deeper Than the Darkness  by MithLuin 2 Review(s)

What a wonderful take on our four lads, and their settling back into the Shire. It's very different from many that I've read on the subject, and has a lovely old-fashioned quality to it, that really suits our hobbits. There is an underlying melancholy and bittersweet tang to it, but it is not overwhelmed with angst, and the dialogue is crisp and hobbity.

Of course, it is easy for the readers to realize that the "she" in Frodo's poem was the Shire itself--yet it must have been a mighty puzzle to Merry at the time. I am thinking that later on, he would have realized.

I love your way with them here, I really do, and I hope that there will be more hobbitfic from you posted here!

Author Reply: Thank you! You are really too kind....

I wrote this story partly out of my reaction after reading a few too many angsty fics (on WotM). I really wanted to show the healing, without denying the wounds. Of course, that meant the story had to be short, because Frodo doesn't really heal. I hope that Merry would come to understand in time.

I have enjoyed your stories - you are really good at enfusing them with humor. I will have to read "A New Reckoning" at some point myself... Unfortunately, I have only written two hobbitfics, which are both posted here. There will not be any more, at least not for a very long time. This story took me (I kid you not) over a year to write - I'm very slow!

This whole story was just plain beautiful. I loved the hobbity humor and the manifestation of the camaderie among Sam, Frodo, Merry, and Pippin.
