For the Love of a Friend  by PIppinfan1988 6 Review(s)

I can certainly feel with Pippin about his desire to fill his vision with Frodo and Sam; but he ought to have taken it far, far more slowly, of course.

A very few problems with wording; but a marvelous chapter showing the progress Pippin is finally making.

Author Reply: Yes, he should have, but he only had eyes for Frodo at the time. ;-)

Thank you--and I don't mind PMs giving me feedback on grammar and mechanics, or redundancies. In fact, I welcome them! Thank you for reading!

Nice chapter. Thank goodness Gandalf was there at the end. Can't wait to see what happens next.

Sorry this review is so short, but I'm getting really tired, and the hand is giving me the "stop" warning.

Thanks.

GT.

Author Reply: hullo! So sorry--I thought I had answered you. :-( Hope your hand is doing much better! Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a review, but please let your hand rest! :-)

Ah, yes, this sounded quite true--I can understand Pippin being drawn to Frodo, once he saw them clearly before him.

I find myself hoping for another familiar face--will Beregond make an appearance in your story? After all, it was "for the love of a friend" (as your title says, though it might not be referring to Pippin's stabbing the troll to save Beregond, at deadly peril to himself) that Pippin ended up half-crushed.

Anyhow, keep up the good work. (And I will hope for another quiet Monday early morning to treat myself to a snippet or two.)

Author Reply: I'm glad you enjoyed the part of Pippin being drawn to Frodo. It did't go exactly this way in the first edition; this seemed a lot more plausible, and I, too, liked the fact that Pippin would be drawn by his love for his cousin and dear friend.

You are absolutely correct about Beregond--and he never made an appearance in the first draft. Why? My only guess is that I was already sweating big bullets about writing a story and publishing it for the very first time in my life. I've thought about putting him in here this time around for the very reason you mentioned, but there is also something I want him to do for our young tween. So, keep an eye out. ;-)

Thank you for stopping by to read--I'm glad you did. :-)

So, you found time to write this weekend! I am so very glad. I enjoyed this chapter very much. I liked the fact that Pippin noticed the worry and the lines on Merry's face. I also found it so very like him to try to do things on his own. My favorite part was when he felt compelled to go and see Frodo. It was as if he had no choice and I think that was something that just came from Frodo after he distroyed the Ring. I think people were drawn to him. Looking forward to more.

Author Reply: LOL, yes, I did! Actually, this is the "half" that I spoke of, but decided it should stand on its own. As I said to another reader, yes, Pippin was compelled--he wanted to see for himself, but in the end, it was love that drew him. So, in a way, you are correct--lol, he had no choice. Well, not much of one. I have no doubt that people in general were drawn to Frodo--this is the same person who forgave Gollum at the end...I believe he also forgave Saruman...Frodo gave more than ample chances for wicked folk to repent of their ways, so yeah, Frodo drew people through his learned wisdom and the great love in his heart for others.

Thank you so much for reading!

Oh! Our dear lad!!! I can so understand him though. He had to see for himself. Post more soon so he isn't laying there unconscience for too long :)

Thisis soooooooo good!

Author Reply: Hullo Pearl!

Yes, Pippin *had* to see for himself, but even more, it was love that drew him.

LOL, yes'm! I shall get to writing tonight...but I can't say when it will be ready to post.

Thank you, mentor! And thank you for your encouragement and for reading. :-)

I don't blame Pippin for being drawn to Frodo and Sam's bedside! But now he'll be watched even more closely, I suspect. :D

Author Reply: Thank you! How could he *not* be drawn? He loves Frodo and Sam, too. Just wait and see what happens...

Thank you for reading!
