:-) Very nice, Aragorn...

A marvelous meeting after a long parting.

Ah, Elrohir, you sly dog, you! Matchmakers in Elven robes!

And Aragorn is as smitten as ever, if more mature in his caring now.

A very nice little gapfiller. It explains in a very plausible and entertaining way how Arwen's change of heart regarding Aragorn. I always thought that her actions in Lothlórien came as a little abrupt, and the partial explanation about how he looked like an Elf-lord (for once not the grubby ranger? *g*) seemed rather insufficient. I always felt there were at least _some_ steps in between. So, thank you for showing us one such.
I particularly liked how Aragorn managed to be honest and at the same time not frighten Arwen into flight. A real charmer, indeed!

I wonder if Elrohir ever rued the day he made them cross their path and wanting Arwen to see Aragorn in a different light. It could very well be that what happened in the end very much exceeded his intentions.

Elrohir as matchmaker? Now why is that one role that never occurred to me! He's right though - Arwen has no more forgotten Estel than he has her.

Estel was cunning too - no, he is not infatuated. He's had a long time to brood on this. And this is definitely not infatuation.

While I'm not sure I buy the notion of Aragorn as a 'sweet-talking devil', I like the dynamic you've presented here very much - mature Aragorn meeting the Evenstar he fell for as a callow boy, and using the abilities and experiences he's gained since then to intrigue the interest of the fair, and millenia-his-elder, Elf. Not to mention Elrohir's functioning as a silent Chorus and Aragorn Pep Squad - that part was particularly amusing and real.

I liked the bit with the warp sticks, Aragorn's physically putting Arwen in an awkward situation (something Her Ladyship is definitely not used to!) and his genuine appreciation of her work.

Author Reply: You don't see him as a 'sweet-talking devil'? Hmmm... Isn't it nice that fanfic can have many different interpretations of a character and all of them enjoyable? I'm glad you liked the warp sticks. I had a terrible time figuring out what she could carry that would sound real. I assumed she had a set of sticks with finials for every season and she was swapping in the summer set or something. ;-) Arwen must have the elvish urge to create and the ability to do it well. The "Science of Middle Earth" guy, whose name is escaping me, said it best; for elves there's less of a disconnect between what their minds can imagine and what their hands can create. I really like that notion. er, um... anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed the story. Thank you!

Great story, and so fun to read. I loved Elrohir's part in the meeting between Aragorn and Arwin, after so long. It was good for Arwin to see a grown up version of Estel. Loved the word play between the two of them.

Author Reply: I'm glad you enjoyed Elrohir's part. I had a heck of a time deciding what POV to write the story from, as it didn't flow very well from either Aragorn's or Arwen's. I think we all needed to be observers of this moment, just as Elrohir was. Thank you!

Thank you for a lovely story. I can see a younger, dashing Aragorn and his word play.

Author Reply: You're welcome and thank you for the comment! I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Gwynnyd, I love the way you write A&A. Quite a few can 'do' a creditable Aragorn, but few I've read can write a living breathing Arwen worthy of our ranger. Of course we all know he wouldn't have waited so long for a mere pretty face, but try to get that into the brains of all those ff writers who depict her as shallow and nothing more than a trophy wife.
Part of me felt sorry for poor confused Arwen, obviously not used to having her equilibrium shaken, and part of me was cross with her for (still) being mean to Aragorn. And speaking of the Dunadan, he can sweet-talk me any time!! "I have heard descriptions of the Lady Galadriel that are very flattering. I admit the possibility that there may be a woman more beautiful, but surely you are still passing fair". Very smooth! And honestly denying infatuation, while not revealing his very real love, was just perfect for a man who has learnt to keep his own counsel (and his secrets).
And Elrohir - only admitting to himself that he wants them all to be together as a family, but actually playing a large role in ensuring these 2 will never be brother and sister!
Of course you do realise that, having tackled the immediately post-Lorien situation in Nothing In Haste and now the immediately pre-Lorien situation (in relative terms since it's doubtful they met again beforehand), a legion of devoted fans are now waiting patiently for you to tackle the betrothal itself... (OK, actually we're not really all that patient, hint hint).
lovely work as always
sorry for the waffle,
jules

Author Reply: a legion of devoted fans !!!??? Gwynnyd feels faint and sags against the keyboard. Oh, my! Thank you! I really think that part of the attraction she feels for him is that he can't be easily categorized, and he's always surprising her with his reactions. Growing up with elves would either make him tongue-tied or eloquent, and we know he's good at extemporaneous poetry. It's a good thing I have as long as necessarty to come up with the perfect comeback. LOL I will try and write faster...

This was just delightful, both funny and touching.

Author Reply: Thank you. It was fun writing the dialogue.

I really enjoyed this. It hadn't occured to me how awkward things might have been between the two of them when they next saw each other and it would definitely have needed to happen before they met up again in Lothlorien. You really did a wonderful job of capturing the interplay between the two of them and Elrohir's reactions to it all.

Author Reply: LOL - that's what I seem to do best: think up all the wierd bits. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thank you!
