The Path Ahead  by Gryffinjack 2 Review(s)

Ah, growing up can be difficult, but is eased when one has a good relationship with ones parents. And surviving the death of Lalia must have been very trying for all of them, and particularly Pearl and her parents worrying for her.

Author Reply: Although I doubt the death of Lalia was especially difficult for Pippin since he was so young, no doubt this entire period was extremely distressing for his parents and for Pearl.

You are so right about how much easier growing up can be if one has a good relationship with one's parents. I see Pippin as getting many of his qualities from his father, sensitive, caring, sunny disposition, and the gift of the Sight. I'm sure that as more responsibility is put upon both Paladin and later Pippin, they will both rely on the strength of their family to help them through it.

What a great look at this momentous moment in the lives of Paladin and Pippin. Thank goodness that Pippin has Merry to compare notes with and Frodo too, as head of the Baggins'

Author Reply: Sorry it took so long to reply, but I just saw these reviews for this story.

This truly must have been a momentous time for Paladin and Pippin and I'm sure they both found it a bit scary. Fortunately, they had the sunny-Took outlook on things to help them get through it.

At this point in time, Pippin is very fortunate to have Merry to compare notes with regarding being heir to one of the two most important titles in the Shire. Althoguh Frodo is head of the Baggins family, the Baggins family is not one of the "great families" like the Tooks and Brandybucks are and does not have the large family all living in one dwelling aspect that Merry and Pippin are part of. Being heirs to the Took and the Thain and the Master of the Hall, this may be one of the reasons that Merry and Pippin were so close, for there was nobody else in the Shire (save their fathers) who was in their position.
