Excellent first chapter. You have me hooked - even though I am not too fond of Feanor!

I love the children - I love their play, their relationships, and their fears!

Thank you!

I really like seeing Feanor and his sons in fanfiction being portrayed as real, full characters, rather than only at the moments when they did something evil and I think your stories are the only places I have seen that.

How refreshing to see the sons of Feanor discussing whether they would like a little sister or another brother (or whether it was simply enough to get their mother/sibling through the birth heathily). And I never thought about the fact that Amrod and Amras might have been the first twins for elves and how confusing that would have been for everyone. Loved that.

The brothers comforting each other was very sweet and very in character given how strong their bond proved to be later in life. And I like the idea of Feanor making something for his wife for every birth. But I particularly liked Feanor telling his sons about his mother. I always thought that his creative spirit must have really warred with his fear of his wife suffering as his mother did and I like how you showed that here with his decision to stop with six--hehehe, little did he know.

This was a great family picture--I loved it and I'm looking forward to more.

Good to see a new story by FP! Apologies for being a bit late in reviewing, but I've been out of touch for some time and I am only very slowly catching up...

"I decided to let him "invent" just one more feature of life in Arda" This sentence kept me wondering. Then, also did this one: ""Never again," he murmured. "I will sire no more children. I have not the heart to make any of you endure this waiting again. Six children is enough for anyone."

Then, I assumed that you referred to him "inventing" twins, that's it, isn't it? ;-)

Seriously, it is a nice beginning and a cute family portrait. They must have been children some time, and they must have been a family, too, and it was very nice to see them rolling eyes at one of those insidious songs we have all suffered at any point in our lives! Very nice detail!

I love Macalaurė and his song - and that he knows he is safe singing it at this particular time. Maitamo's sensitivity to his grandmother's death and his worry for his own mother makes him come over as a responsible and caring brother and son. Love the way they try to coax Curufinwė into looking forward to the prospect of being a big brother - this is such a caring loving bunch of brothers that it is incredible to think of them as the Kinslayers they become.

Feanor, too - is a family man. A husband and father. Although I admit to being very pleased that he gets compelled to see the arrival of the youngest of his brood. .... I wonder if that's why that baby was the last of his brood.

Wretched Silmarils.

Why couldn't Aule make them if they had to be made?

Of course, there wouldn't be much of a story ...

A clever idea, that Feanaro had "invented" twins. :)

Initially, I must admit, I wanted to kick Feanaro for being out in his forge while Nerdanel was in labor. But he made up for it while in the "knot" of his sons. (I love that line!)

And the "Whoop Whoop Whoop" song was delightful. Actually, for some reason, I first heard that song "Whoop! There It Is" in my head, horrifyingly enough. I would not mind hearing Macalaure sing the entire "Whoop Whoop Whoop" song, even though it *does* seem like something that could become annoying after a while! (Though certainly no less than "Whoop! There It Is.")

Thanks for pointing me over here. This made for a nice afternoon read.

Twins, eh? Hope all is well with both infants. And love how the children all wait with childish concern and anxiety, and how they seek to soothe one another.

And love that there is a song that can drive elves crazy! Heh!

OK, first things first. Gimme a break here, Pony. If you have to use the Quenya names, at least give me a translation somewhere! I have enough trouble with the Feanorians even when people use their familiar names.

*takes deep breath*

Oh yeah. The first twins. How that must have astounded the elves. They would have had no idea at all what was happening when the pregnancy was different.

I loved the whoop, whoop, whoop song. That's the kind of thing kids love and it drives the rest of the family mad.

You really made me feel for the boys (whoever they are).
