Reflections in the Dark  by Thundera Tiger 4 Review(s)

There certainly is a great love between the two of them. I felt that their "friendly insults" were just a tad overdone. Actually, this is something that is starting to bother me more and more as many writers write them as bantering and insulting each other too much, so I am becoming overly sensitive to that now. However, in all other respects (story idea, writing, descriptions) it was a great work. I just love how you made Legolas be the most important person in Gimli's life. The ending is just so warm and wonderful. You are a very talented writer.

this incident was a great demonstration of the friendship b/w gimli and legolas. The voices of the characters were true throughout - you really have legolas adn gimli *down*.

My favorite line was "to enjoy an elf's discomfort, one had to first enjoy an elf's friendship." LOL that's terrific. There's Gimli, wondering how to cause discomfort in his friend, and it makes him appreciate his friendship all the more.
well done.

Author Reply: Thank you! One of the things that I love most about Legolas and Gimli is the paradox inherent in their friendship. They're so very different in their attitudes, their thoughts, and their actions, but they're driven by many of the same ambitions and hold many of the same goals. That they became friends at all is something of a miracle, and that this friendship continued means they had to have enjoyed the contrasts between them. So I like to get in and explore just how very different they are and how they are starting to become more alike because of their friendship. It's my personal feeling that Gimli would have never left Middle-earth unless he had left behind a lot of his dwarven ideas and loves, and Legolas would have never taken him if he hadn't left behind a lot of his elven ideas and loves.

Very sweet! I loved it!

"Eomer had once remarked that he could sometimes see Legolas’s gaze in Gimli’s eyes. Gimli had immediately slugged the man for such an insult and was then forced to deal with the incensed guards who wished to execute the dwarf for striking the king. Eomer had laughed uproariously on the floor in the meantime, considering this a just reward, but all the same, these events pointed to the same unfathomable conclusion. Gimli was becoming…well…elvish.

LOL! I would love to see this incident in a story sometime. Have you written it down?

Author Reply: Sadly, no. I haven't written down the scene where Gimli and Eomer have their little confrontation. That bit exists only in my own mind and in the minds of everyone who read that part. I really don't have a plan to write it down, either, because I think the vagueness makes it more enjoyable. Anyway, glad you liked the story!

Wow. This story, and its companion piece, are ones that I read over and over again. Your ability to describe the bonds of friendship, as well as the details of a threatening environment, is incredible. (And I'm really claustrophobic. There are *very* few authors whose talent would entice me to read a story about being trapped at all, much less underground.)

Thank you!
