I guess one of the biggest disappointments I had with the Peter Jackson fanfic movies is all of the Grey Company is missed. I thank you for writing this wonderful insight from Halbarad's perspective! Well done!

This passage is one of my favourite ones, with Aragorn wrestling with Sauron through the Palantir, and Halbarad on watch. I'm linking your story to my 'Recommended Reading List on the Awren Undomiel forum!

Author Reply: Hi there! Thank you for your kind comment; no, this one remains the only story I've written about Rangers at all, though I've been thinking of returning to my Tolkien roots. Perhaps Lorabar is someone I could revisit!

I just love ranger stories, and your's on Halbarad's thoughts is a good one. Good to know he has a son, even though his wife died. The part where where he wonders if he will see the north again, is sad knowing that he never will.

Author Reply: I'm so glad that you enjoyed this story! Until now, I'd neither read nor written any focusing on the rangers; this one was prompted by a friend, but I'm glad that she requested it. I did insert some intentional poignancy there; despite the many survivors, there would have been heavy casualties in every race. Thank you again for reading and leaving a review.

I loved this.It is very moving and a nice glimpse of Halbarad and his devotion to Aragorn.

Author Reply: Many thanks for your review- one of the great joys about writing Tolkien fanfiction is getting to fill in possible details about minor characters. I'm so glad that you enjoyed this story enough to leave a comment.

Wow, I thoroughly enjoyed this! Halbarad's unconditional loyalty to Aragorn comes across so powerfully, even as he recognizes that Aragorn has traveled farther than, and become something transcending, any other Dunadan - I love the description that his years with the Elves "lie on him gracefully like the drape of a fine cloak." I also love Halbarad's observation: Only a star marks our heraldry; I find it a fitting symbol, as we of the North are as far-flung and scattered across the rough-hewn lands as the pebbled lights above. Beautiful. The dialogue between the two men is powerful in its efficiency - these are old friends who need few words. Very moving.

Author Reply: Thank you so very much for your thoughtful review! It's such a joy to have phrases jump out so much that they are quoted back; I'm glad that you were moved by this vignette and felt that the interaction between Halbarad and Aragorn was believable and in character. Many thanks for reading and commenting.
