Bumblebees  by annmarwalk 3 Review(s)

This was absolutely beautiful! It's spare frame displays a zen-like simplicity, yet the depth of emotion cuts to the bone. I think you have my favorite man pegged. Being both brother and parent to Faramir would have made Boromir particularly suseptable to the charms of the young. He would have made a wonderful father. I only wish it could have been longer, but if it had I think that may have weakened the framework quite seriously, so don't change a thing!

Author Reply: Thank you so much for your kind words. I think Boromir was quite accustomed to the idea of being a defender and protector of the weak in an abstract sense, but might not have ever had the opportunity to encounter the reality of those whom he fought to defend. So a meeting with children would have served as a reminder of the true purpose, and value, of his continued labor.

Also, we're quite used to thinking of him as a toughened warrior - I wanted to show a more tender side that he himself may have forgotten, the poor dear.

A lovely scene, and it is interesting to think that Boromir might have regretted his childlessness. He is clearly surprised that he is so disarmed (a good word for Boromir) by the little girls.

Author Reply: I can't help but imagine that many of his encounters with children would have resulted from some horrific tragedy, like an orc attack. To meet children (little girls at that, alien feminine creatures) at happy, relaxed play would have been quite an unusual experience for him. And the simple, unconditional affection of a butterfly kiss - poor Boromir! He would have been totally blown away, even without the memory of his mother. Poor guy.

This was lovely! Such a sweet picture of Theodred's family, and nice insight into Boromir's character.

Bumblebees and butterflies... makes me smile to picture it.

Blessings,
Mum

Author Reply: Thank you so much! The image of Boromir the Bold holding a lovely little girl is quite a delightful one, isn't it?
