Dreamflower's Dribs and Drabs  by Dreamflower 7 Review(s)
Grey WondererReviewed Chapter: 31 on 2/15/2011
Hadn't seen this one and while I was reading the others, found it. So sad and so very moving. Lovely.

Author Reply: Thank you! I always find the Grey Havens very sad and moving. It's such a profound farewell, for they know they not only will never see Frodo again, but never hear from him either. Even Sam at this point has no certainty...

//heart cords are stretching, breaking//

That was beautifully put. Well done.

Author Reply: That's how I see the connection between the four, as the "ties that bind" between them all. I am glad you liked that phrase.

Beautifully done! And the perfect choice of the last outstanding word: homeward!

That's what Frodo wanted for all three of them: to feel at home in the Shire and live a full life. And from what we know they were quite successful in doing that.

As for Frodo: I believe that he found a new home, too, in the West. But the completion of his healing process could only take place after he was reunited with his three friends.

Author Reply: Thank you.

I think they all would have missed one another for so long as their separation lasted. But we know that separation did eventually end.

Lovely and so very poignant!

Author Reply: Thank you, dear! I am so glad you enjoyed it.

Captures well that terrible yet grace-filled time for Frodo is going to his reward but has to leave so many he loves behind. Le hannon, my dear! Love especially the mention of a smile. :)

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: I think the smile is important, that the others know that things are going to be better for him. It's why they are giving him up, after all.

Oh, such a perfect rendition of that scene--no words from Frodo, but that last kiss and smile to carry ever in their breaking hearts....

Author Reply: Thank you! I often have a mental image of the three of them, silhouetted beneath the sky, purple with stars above and a red sunset beyond the horizon, and no longer a trace of those gray sails anywhere to be seen...

A sad, beautiful and ultimately hopeful piece; very well done!

Author Reply: A sad, beautiful and ultimately hopeful...

To me, that's exactly a description of the entire "The Grey Havens" chapter, so thank you for the wonderful compliment. I'm glad you think I was successful in capturing that.
