| Beautifully done! And the perfect choice of the last outstanding word: homeward! That's what Frodo wanted for all three of them: to feel at home in the Shire and live a full life. And from what we know they were quite successful in doing that. As for Frodo: I believe that he found a new home, too, in the West. But the completion of his healing process could only take place after he was reunited with his three friends. Author Reply: Thank you. I think they all would have missed one another for so long as their separation lasted. But we know that separation did eventually end. | |

I often have a mental image of the three of them, silhouetted beneath the sky, purple with stars above and a red sunset beyond the horizon, and no longer a trace of those gray sails anywhere to be seen... | |
