| Short-term gains - short-term victories. The hobbit victory was sweeter for the waiting. Author Reply: And all the sweeter for the fact that the hobbits dealt with the problem themselves--Gandalf was very wise in allowing that to happen. As for the ruffians, well, their victory was not only short-term, but very costly to them in the end. | |
