Such a wonderful story of love, friendship and brotherhood. It was heartwarming to read. Thank you!
Awwh if I could some do your story justice on Deviant art with some drawings! Such as it is I have not yet come around to draw but I hope to do it one day.

A very sweet tale. Poor Rúmil was so jealous of his little brother - but I like Haldir's skill (and manipulation!) in pointing out that he'll be Orophin's big brother, and equally loved and worshipped.

Author Reply: Thank you very much, Jay! I'm so glad you enjoyed it. :)
Haldir's not just a pretty face. lol

Lovely ending, Lairewen. These brothers are lucky to have one another in the hard times that will come.

I'm a middle child myself, so Rumil has all my sympathy.

Author Reply: Thank you! I'm delighted that you've enjoyed the fic. They are very lucky I agree! :)

What a good, encouraging big brother Haldir is. And cunning enough to be parent-like in his skills - without the hassle of actually being directly responsible for the rearing of this little one.

And Rumil's parents show love without condoning his bad behaviour. What wise elves! I love the way his naneth pops the baby in Rumil's arms. And Orophin is very wise to show such admiration for his brother. There's nothing like genuine, whole-hearted admiration to help win over a suspicious older child.

I hope you are planning on writing some more stories about this threesome - and Haldir's efforts in brother-rearing. This was delightful.

Author Reply: Thank you! Haldir's status as brother rather than parent probably aided in his success - he's not quite as imposing!

There's nothing like genuine, whole-hearted admiration to help win over a suspicious older child.

LOL so true! Orophin may be young but he's not stupid! ;)

I'm so glad you've enjoyed this story. I've not got anything else planned at the moment, but I can never stay away from these three for long, so there's a good chance more may turn up in the future! (And I've just realised I have an elfling fic I never posted here... oops! Must do that!)

Huzzah!!! A wonderful tale Lairewen! I loved it. :-) Haldir was a little mean, but he was doing only what he thought was best and it turned out perfectly :-)

Ah yes... I am glad that Nana knew exactly what to do to conquer jealousy. :-) I fell in love as soon as I saw my little siblings :-) And yes... I do have 11 siblings. I am nearly smack dab in the middle :-D

I loved this little story and I hope you post more soon!!

Author Reply: Thank you! As the old saying goes, sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind! I'm glad you liked it!

Your mother must be a saint, that's all I can say! 12 children - Amazing!

Haldir is such a good big brother. It'll take some time for Rumil to absorb what he said, but at least Haldir planted the seed.

And now Big Brother has the unenviable task of coaxing the cat out of the tree, so to speak. At least he doesn't have to call the Lothlorien fire department. He can go back up himself, if he has to. But a wood elf has to have confidence in the trees or he's going to have a tough life! Poor Rumil.

Author Reply: Changes won't happen overnight, no, but he has a lot of time to learn! ;)

The Lothlorien fire department - LOL! Now there's an interesting mental image!

Haldir's very worried about Rúmil's confidence, as you will soon see!

Thanks for reviewing!

Thank goodness for elven reflexes - that was pretty close. I'm not surprised that Rumil has lost his nerve a bit. It might take quite a lot of big-brotherly coaxing to get him down out of that tree - and even more big-brotherly coaxing to get him to climb another.

Haldir was being very wise - I don't know that he will have made that much impression - little kids can hold big grudges and aren't very good at seeing other points of view. But he is there for his little brother - and Rumil will grow accustomed. Once Orophin does something other than feed and sleep and their parents are less distracted.

It's lovely seeing Haldir and Rumil like this!

Author Reply: Yes, Haldir has a hard task ahead of him! But he's quite resourseful! ;)

Haldir just wants to get things going in the right direction... he knows these things take time. Luckily they have a lot of it!

Thank you!

Horray!!! An update :-) Thrilled...

Ahh.. The wonderful innocence of children... "and let me have strawberry cake when Nana says no!” :-)

Hmm... Having (mentally counting) four younger siblings I can remember the exact feelings of what Rumil is having. Resentment, anger, bitterness... I hated the fact that my mom paid more attention to the baby than she did me... And you portrayed those feelings in Rumil very nicely :-)

Although I will say :-) Haldir did use a little blackmail :-P I have 11 siblings... So I know how it goes all three ways.. :-) ;-)

Great job and looking forward to more!!!

Author Reply: Heehee I'm glad you liked that line!

Thank you, I'm glad it worked. :) But 11 siblings?! Ohh I don't evey you at all!

Yes he used blackmail... lol can you blame him? ;)

Thanks again!

*Goes off still astounded at the 11 siblings thing*

Poor Rumil! I hope Haldir can move quickly enough to save him - but he'll have to be quick. It's hard on the elfling to have another sibling so close to him, especially as his naneth is not recovering too quickly.

And both parents and baby Orophin are doubtless running on no sleep and little patience - new-borns can't be easy even among elves. I think big brother might just need to take over for a bit.

Author Reply: Well, Haldir is a very fast Elf - but if that's enough remains to be seen! ;)

Hopefully his parents will get the chance to sort things out with him and assure him that he hasn't been replaced by his time-consuming little brother! *Grin*

Thanks for the review!

Hi Lairewen,

Oh poor Rumil. He's having a very bad day. As an older sibling, I feel his pain (lol). I really enjoyed this chapter, very glad to see that no matter what the race, some things never change. Tell Velond and Haldir maybe they should get Rumil a puppy!! ( No wait a minute, that would leave mom with 2 babies and a puppy. She'd kill me.) Can't wait for the next chapter, hope Rumil is not to seriously hurt.

Your fan,

Eliza

Author Reply: Hi Eliza, thanks for the review.

Yes, I feel his pain too! I remember well how I felt when my sister was born! I think some things are just universal constants! lol.

The puppy is a cute idea though - maybe when he's older!

More is on the way!
