Not much to say that hasn't already been said in a review, except that I, too, like this very first meeting of Gandalf and Pippin. I'm curious about whether you've explored anywhere else more thoroughly just how exactly Pippin in particular is a "Gift of the Valar", more than any other hobbit babe?

Also, I really like adorable baby!Pip and the struggling speech of (almost)-adult injured Pip, with the echoes of the peeping through slits of his green eyes when he opened them as a babe, and when he did so while lying injured in Ithilien.

Author Reply: Oh, thank you so much! You saw things that even I had missed, and I wrote it.:)

Hopefully, in the near future, there will be at least two stories, maybe three, that deal with why our dear Pippin is extra-special.

Thanks again.

"He will face great evil, and he will overcome it. He will always be a source of light, love and laughter to all those around him. Raise this child well, Paladin Took, for you have been given a gift far greater than you may ever know. The Valar give their special gifts to mortals rarely, and they are to be treasured."

What a marvelously reassuring thing to tell the family! And this is just too adorable:

Frodo called Merry aside immediately and explained what had happened the night before. "You have a difficult job ahead of you, Meriadoc. You are now the older cousin to a Gift of the Valar, whatever that may be, and you’re going to have to take very good care of him, and teach him well, because Gandalf’s going to be watching, and you don’t want to displease him."

Awwwww! What a sweet, loving story.

Author Reply: Thank you, Shirebound. It was reading your "Mind to Mind" that got me started on writing LOTR fanfic. So anything that you say about my stories has a little extra meaning to me.

Thanks.

A lovely little gap-filler Garnet. The thought that Gandalf was the oracle at Pippion's birth is great. And I liked the exchange between Frodo and Merry.

Author Reply: Thank you. I always suspected that Gandalf and Pippin had a history, and Merry and Frodo would definitely taken anything Gandalf said to heart. Besides, Pippin already had them wrapped around his little finger.

Such a lovely story, as I think I said in a review already.

One thing you might not have noticed; the instructions for posting are still tagged on to the end of the story. You might want to go back and edit and delete that part.

Author Reply: Oops! I was just so glad that it posted that I forgot to even look closely at the end.:) I was also really tired when I posted it. Thanks for pointing it out. I fixed it.

I'm very glad you like the story, too.

Oh, very nice! I love it when Gandalf goes all soft and squishy over Pippin. The story of their first meeting was lovely, and the line about Pippin's eyes being the color of mallorn leaves in summer is just beautiful. Nicely done! :-)

Author Reply: Thank you so much.

I always thought that Gandalf had more than just a passing aquaintance with Pippin. And as for the eyes; I just love those beautiful green eyes and wanted to explain them since everything I've read says that most hobbits have brown ones.

Yes, one of the five great gifts of the Valar for that time, Bilbo being counted as one of them.

Lovely moment.

Author Reply: Somehow, I think there's much more to Pippin than meets the eye. I have the feeling that he's special even among the five.:)

Thanks for reviewing.
