Untrodden Path  by Timmy2222 6 Review(s)

I can't understand how you are able to deal with so many original characters! And every one of them has is or her own story and character! I can truly admire this!

“There is no comfort for a soul that mourns.”
I think this is my favourite line (with all of its surroundings!)

I love how you capture the 'mysterious Strider'.That was the reason I fell in love with him at once when I read FotR.

"Daevan felt miserable listening to the whistling sound of Strider's breathing right behind him." I can understand him all too well! I have a friend who has asthma, and I can tell you, it is really like this to hear her choking on the very air itself! :o(

And the dark athmosphere was perfect! All the time, I could feel that something is going to change, that dark times are coming. And now the orcs... Good work!

Author Reply: Hi Laerien,

thanks for so much praise! That's truly kind of you! Original Characters - believe it or not - are by far easier handled than the CC because I have all freedom I want to develop them. I have to stay in character while writing Aragorn because every reader has a certain imagination how he should deal with incidents. So I cannot drift too far from that path (see your own expectation to have him 'mysterious'). But all other men and women are free to go in every direction I need them to go. If it is Gaellyn's distrust or Nilana's care...

I am very glad you let me know your favorite lines. It's a pleasure to learn how much a story is cherished. Thanks.

Missed this one while working, apparently.

Excellent depiction of the mood and feelings of all. The excitement of finding the crab to the loosing of the arrows at the uruk-hai was excellently depicted, followed by the return back to warn the villagers.

Love to see Strider in his element, still ill but insistent on doing his duty, seeking to go on, then realizing they must return and warn.

Beautifully depicted.

Author Reply: Hi Larner,

yes, loved that part, too. Though I'm no native speaker I try to handle the obstacles and search the right words for description.

Hope to entertain you further.

I am such a bad reviewer. I seem to have fallen into the habit of reviewing as soon as I see the next chapter posted but not before. But I don't like to read the new chapter before I review the last one. A peculiarity of mine. Poor Nilana. Still being badgered. All her hopes (that COULD be a bad pun) gone. The back story of what happened to Nilana's husband is quite intriguing. Kind of an awkward leave-taking for Aragorn. Daevan must REALLY be wondering what's going on after Strider relates Gollum's importance to him, albeit in a riddle like fashion. I like the way you introduced the orcs' presence with just a hint here and there. But I'm also glad that it appears that they will be heading back to the village post haste! "Up to now life was good." Strider remained silent, but his expression told Daevan more than he would have wanted to hear. Oh oh. Guess he didn't have a happy look on his face...This is one of those stories that I devour as soon as I can. I will recommend it anywhere I can. Oh yes. One more thing -- why doesn't Strider like fish? Okay, okay. I know. Of course I know. But I just couldn't resist asking. *Reviewer puts on fake innocent look*. Now, on to the next chapter.

Author Reply: Hi Viggomaniac,

sorry for replying to your review so late. The week has been terribly hectic and only now I come to properly appreciate all the wonderful reviews I got.

Yes, the Orcs shouldn't be too fast, ey? If they arrive before Strider it would be really devastating...

And the disklike for fish? Well... there has to be something even a man like Aragorn doesn't like, right?

Poor Nilana, I feel so sorry for her, she is such a nice lady, and so lonely.
I like that part about Aragorn and the fish smell. Orcs have found them, this is not good, or as Daevan said "Up till now life was good"

Author Reply: Hi grumpy,

the Orcs will prove to be bad guests indeed...

Ok, I am dying to know what happened with Nilana's husband!. I am glad she stuck up for herself! I hope she will get stronger as we go further into the story and stand her ground without crying! Walking through the marsh with Strider and Daevan was creepy. I have a feeling that life with Daevan and his people is about to change and will never be the same! PS- I love the ongoing "fish" comments. Very funny. Will be waiting for the next update.

Author Reply: Hi RS,

yeah, I'm a big fan of "running gags". Can't help it. Just a habit.

Next update is online!

I really enjoyed this chapter! I'm glad that Daevan is going with him or at least has started out with him, though I'm not sure what is going to happen now! :) Looking forward to the next update.

Author Reply: Hi Radbooks,

thanks for your kind review! I hope that Daevan will become a character to like and that I can keep you entertained with some twists in the plot.
