Birthday Surprises  by Baggins Babe 10 Review(s)

I love how nicely you handle the more political things. I've always found that difficult, even (if not especially) in fanfiction. So glad the Angmarians are going to be all right.

Sounds like all had a wonderful day. Yes, if only the world could be more like the Shire!
God bless,
Galadriel

Author Reply: I think the world would be a much nicer and more peaceful place if we could all be a bit more hobbity! I sometimes feel that Man as a species is not very nice.

Thinking about politics in a world not our own can be quite fascinating.

I have finally been able to make the time to get caught up on reading a wee bit here at SoA, and this is one of the most delightful stories I've ever read... it absolutely fills my heart and soul with happiness, to see Frodo healed and enjoying life in the Shire. You really do capture the "essence" of hobbits---and such wonderful descriptive writing you have, too. I'm thoroughly enjoying this.

Author Reply: Glad you catching up and that you enjoy visits to my universe. I like to give poor Frodo a bit of fun - he does go through it, the poor love. Mind you, the new story might make you go eeeek! :-))

Spending time with hobbits is such fun - I always feel as though I've had a holiday in the Shire when I've written a chapter, particularly with this story. It is what we'd all like to see - Aragorn in the Shire.

So many lovely scenes, here. It sounds like many from outside the Shire are learning what Aragornknows about good Hobbit sense. I think, though, that my favorite pert is Nibs and Aragorn talking about Rose. "..even a King obeys her"... and, she seems like the sister he never had. Such great images!

Author Reply: Yes, I enjoyed doing that bit with Nibs and Aragorn, and Rose is the sister Aragorn (and Frodo) never had. I've loved writing this story and seeing the Men in the shire.

I'm back! 1 review started and 43 to go! Simple conferences with hobbits eh? Well, yes just as long as you get done before dinner! *grin*

Author Reply: Lovely to have you back. Hope you're all caught up now.
I'm sure conferences with hobbits would be a breeze provided everything was signed and sealed before dinner - and quite right too!

Just discovered your story and read through to the most recent chapter. Lovely story... full of Sam-love, which warms my heart. I like your characterization of Rosie... "Get along with you." And I particularly liked the idea of the gardens for Boromir and Smeagol/Gollum; very moving. Glad that Sam had such a loving, wonderful party surrounded by family and friends... he deserves the best because he is the best. Thanks for a great read.

Author Reply: Welcome to my universe! I'm so pleased you liked the story - Sam is a sweeties, isn't he? He's in all my stories - hope you'll find your way to the rest now you've started. :-))

Rose is a very strong character who writes herself - I love her. She is the sister Frodo never had, and she runs the household so capably.

I had great fun writing this - always wanted to see Aragorn in the Shire - and really enjoyed the party. There's one more chapter to come on this.

"Don't know about exorbitant, my lord. All we ask is a fair price."

"If only all my dealings were with hobbits," the King murmured.

I agree! Dealings with hobbits would be a pleasure!

But who is Murdo Bracegirdle? It sounds as if he is no danger anymore. But, let's wait and see.

Last, but not least: Rosie is great!
Even the King of Gondor does obey to her orders. Maybe, he's just afraid of the tea towel ;-)

Author Reply: Murdo is a particularly unpleasant hobbit, and in the next chapter we learn a little more about the way the hobbits' attitudes to punishment changed after the Scouring of the Shire.

Yes, if only everyone was as easy to deal with as our sensible hobbits.

Yep, I think Aragorn may have a lot of respect for the tea towel. :-))

Aragorn and Nibs together was lovely, BB! Obviously Nibs is coming to see the King the same way as the Travellers do if he would follow him everywhere. It is good to know Aragorn has this effect on him - and probably not only on Nibs.

Oh yes, I can imagine the rangers and particularly a certain ranger will visit the new Rangers and Shirriffs Post very frequently and soon become oversized but well feed hobbits *grin*

Hm ... I wonder why Aragorn asked about the most unpleasant Hobbit in the Shire ... is he planning something?

Otherwise I am very satisfied with the way you handled the ban of Men in the Shire. I was never truly happy that Aragorn even included himself in this and hadn't any chance to visit the Shire. One of the reasons why I love this story - I always wanted him to visit there. And I loved the anecdote of Pippin's "diplomatic skills" *rofl* Not to mention his last remark. Oh yes, I can see the faces if Aragorn tells these diplomats dinner is much more important than they!

Author Reply: You're right - at least one Ranger will be making regular visits to th new Ranger and Shirriff Post, and will need new clothes pretty soon.

I've always thought it was rather unfair of Aragorn to include himself in the ban and this story has been such fun to write.

Naturally dinner is much more important than excessive diplomacy!

What a lovely update. Aragorn's right. If only more people lived and saw things the way hobbits do, it would be a much better world. I loved how the Men pooled their resources into a gift for Rose. Won't she be shocked and surprised. :oD

I hope the next chapter/update won't be too long in coming. I really do love this universe where there's a happy and healthy Frodo after the Quest. :o)

Author Reply: Happy and healthy Frodo is so lovely! Will try not to take so long with the next update.

The Men had to confer about the cloth and the colour when discussing Rose's present. You know what men are like when it comes to shopping! I'm sure she'll be thrilled and delighted.

What a delightful chapter! I love the way the hobbits are so impressed with Aragorn's "hobbit-sense". It's so good they got a chance to meet him first as "Thorongil", so they could get to know him as a person before they found out he was King.

And, as usual, Pippin had the last--and best--word!

Author Reply: We can always rely on our favourite Took to have the last word!

Aragorn is quite 'hobbity' and I think the fact that they have spent several days with Thorongil, drinking, playing kick-ball and smoking, has made a difference. He's fitting in very nicely.

the hobbits were left relecting on the contrast between Sharkey's 'gatherers and sharers' and the King and his fellows, who spent their coin freely and insisted on paying the proper price for everything.

... all the Men went into a huddle and then bought a magnificent bolt of woollen velvet in a deep lavender, as a gift for Rose. The shopkeepers and stall-holders of Hobbiton and Bywater had earned more in one afternoon then they sometimes took in a week.

That all gives me such a happy feeling! The thought of the Shire and its inhabitants working together in prosperity and mutual respect is the best healing I can imagine. I do love your Aragorn, and his Men, and... well, everyone!

Author Reply: Yes, the Reunited Kingdom working together - I just love it! I love Aragorn too - so much common sense and humanity. Wish we could have leaders like that nowadays....... *sigh*
