That was a charming tale. I can just see Gandalf resplendent in his snowy-white hat. And I loved your descriptions of people's "looks", from Bergil's mixed proud, embarrassed triumphant look, to Frodo's proud look that made Pippin want to earn it again. Lovely touches!

Author Reply: Thank you for the feedback! Your words are like sweet rain on wilting grass *grin* Glad you enjoyed it.

Um, wow, where do I start? Not only did you take a small idea and make it into a wonderful story, but the writing was quite evocative. You certainly have a way with words!!

I adored the first person POV and the fact that you gave Pippin such a distinctive voice, and that he stayed in character with the books. His whole thought about friends and that everyone was a steward to someone or some ideal was just splendid. What a "Pippinsh" philosophy and grandly worded.

You really brought a tear to my eye with this, "His lamp may be broken, but his inner flame lives on, and will shine all the brighter when I meet him again on the Other Side." That thought along with the earlier reference to Frodo being such a strong light and Pippin feeling like a moth, really brought the whole theme together.

I could go on about so many little details: the secondary characters, the use of colors and their variations, all of the descriptions -- it really all was put together wonderfully. But I'll just say "thank you" for posting such a lovely tale that caused such a strong emotional reaction in me.

Author Reply: Wow Gershwhen, what a wonderful review! Thanks so much--hope the next story will be as fun to write as this one was....have no clue what it will be about yet....hmmmmmmm........

I like reading hobbit stories told in first person, so I thought maybe I ought to attempt one of my own! Glad it worked!

"...and starts a jaunty dance by the light of the moon...the diamond-white moon."

A wonderful ending sentence.

I just loved this story! The moment you first mentioned Mikala and Bergil I just knew that they would marry.

Thanks for sharing your talent with all of us!

Author Reply: Good that Bergil took Pippin's advice to heart, what?

So glad you enjoyed it, I certainly enjoyed writing it! And thanks for reviewing!

"And as he thinks of me, maybe he hears music from a distant land, adjusts the Hat to a jaunty angle and starts to dance, by the light of the Moon…..the diamond-white Moon."

I would like to see Gandalf dancing!

You captured Pippin's voice throughout this story perfectly!
Absolutely wonderful! Thank you :)

Author Reply: So would I! Well, he does dance a wee bit in the movie...in the moonlight...which, I suspect, is probably what inspired that image;)

Thanks for your comments! Amazing how easy it was to write from Pip's pov...I must like the little rascal or something *g*

Oh my. What a masterpiece.

Pippin's voice is so perfect and his thought processes so hobbitish. His observations of the war going on around him are so inocent and yet wordly.

And your last few paragraphs had me weeping.

Bravo and thankyou for a wonderful read.

Author Reply: Glad you think so, Dearie! I can be proud of the story now. Thanks so much for the review, really does my heart good!

*sound of loud applause*

And your epilogue was the perfect finish to this.

I adore your Pippin with his hard-won wisdom, and his way of just *being* love.

Absolutely marvelous story, and it is going to be one of my all-time favorites. I intend to rec this story all over the place!

Author Reply: Whoooooaaaaaaaa!! Thanks so much *blushing* I really had fun with this one. Now I guess I need to go bunny hunting again LOLOL

"his way of just *being* love", what a lovely way to put it!

I started highlighting my favorite parts of this epilogue, but found myself quoting nearly every word of your incredible writing back at you. Beautiful, just beautiful. What a wonderful story.

Well, I have to highlight at least these...

Still, you don’t ALWAYS feel the load. There are things that can make you forget about it, especially if you work at it. Then eventually there comes a time when you stop working so hard at it, and just let things take their course. That’s when some of the load starts dropping off and falling away, and you’re moving on a downhill slide, before you even know it, just greatly enjoying the ride.

But I can see him in his hat, and I think he’s wearing it tonight and thinking of me. And looking at the stars and thinking of all of us. Remembering our journey and our purpose, our songs and our pranks and our mushrooms and our dragging feet. Waterfalls haunted by a lost maiden’s voice. Doors that opened when you spoke “Friend.” Horses that blazed like lightning in fields of gold. Fireworks and hanging lanterns and smoke rings. And a Tree full of blossoms, and a girl who put names to their whiteness and to the brownness of oak leaves in the fall.

And as he thinks of me, maybe he hears music from a distant land, adjusts the Hat to a jaunty angle and starts to dance, by the light of the Moon…..the diamond-white Moon.

Thank you for this lovely story.

Author Reply: And thank YOU (yet once again!) for the idea! This story has been really fun to write, in a way that most stories aren't. The limitations of writing in the first person are quite challenging. I'm surprised I managed to write an entire story from a male point of view, and keep a balance going between humor and seriousness, and dredge up some insights I didn't know were inside of me. Really curious to see what will come out next!

And thanks for your comments, they mean a lot!!!!!

Somehow, the thought of a child with the name Gandalf running around Minas Tirith seems singularly hilarious. I never, somehow, imagined the citizens of Gondor thinking of choosing his name as one to inflict on the young - but why not!

Pippin comes over as a remarkably sensible and well-balanced individual here - with a wicked sense of humour and a superb turn of phrase.

Excellent work.

Author Reply: Oh, I imagine there might have been quite a few little Gandalfs running around there after the War! lol Pity the wizard wouldn't stick around to get to know any of his little namesakes.....

Thanks for the feedback, glad you enjoyed!
