Nine Lives  by Jay of Lasgalen 10 Review(s)

That was quite sweet. Although I was convinced they were leaving Elladan on purpose :)

Author Reply: Thanks, Nic! The abandonment wasn't intentional - they just got distracted. (Though I'm not saying Elrohir wouldn't do it deliberately, just to annoy his brother ...)

Aww, this was really sweet, even if I *am* more of a dog person, lol. I loved the part about 'Dan disowning 'Ro. Once again, Jay, you are awesome. Great, great, great, *great* job.

Author Reply: I like both, having both a cat and a dog, but I think elves would be more cat people - all that grace and elegance.

The lines about 'your brother' came to me at work - colleagues must have wondered why I suddenly started grinning ...

Again, I'm glad you liked this. Thanks for the review!

Ah, Jay, finally, no torture (and I mean to the reader). Sorry I couldn't read the other one - just not in the psychological mood for them dying - but this was nice, even if Elladan was injured. New kittens are always a fun thing (my cats all just looked at me and said 'not here!')

Author Reply: Well, yes, Elladan was injured, but it was very minor - his pride hurt far more than his ankle! I just needed something to keep him confined to the bench for a while as he wondered where Elrohir had got to.

The other story is angsty, but does have a happy(ish) ending - the twins are reunited eventually.

What a sweet little story! And quite a relief--I don't think I could have handled another story about death and the Halls of Mandos today. I'm sure you felt the same way! This piece made for a lovely, little read.

Author Reply: Yes, I wanted to write something happy and lighthearted for a change, and the twins deserved a break from the angst as well.

I'm glad you liked this!

Ah. *Much* better. No killing off my favourite twins this time!
Poor Elladan, he surely would've prefered to injure his ankle in battle, if it could'nt be avoided at all. It must be quite embarassing, especially for an elf!
The cat of my uncle had kittens many years ago when I visited my relatives, and I remember sitting there for hours. Kittens are so lovely! It was luckily Elrohir was there to help the cat - no wonder he abandoned his brother so long and Arwen as well.

Author Reply: As this was a light-hearted story, Elladan's injury had to be something embarrassing, rather than traumatic. His pride is hurt - he fell over in front of all those elves!

I love cats, so kittens seemed the perfect way to lure Elrohir and Arwen away from their brother at this time. And of course Elrohir would help the cat ...

Ooh, how lovely. Poor Elladan. LOL. The embarrassment of it all. And there was I thinking that elves were supposed to be graceful ;-)

I love the thought of Elrohir being dragged off by the elflings, even though it meant that Elladan had to sit there alone and sulking. But I guess Elrohir and Arwen can be forgiven for abandoning him for new kittens. How absolutely adorable. You know, Elrohir shoud really be a vet. He's so good with animals.

This is very cute and simply perfect after what you've just put them all through :-)

Author Reply: Yes, poor Elladan :( His pride suffered here - spraining his ankle in front of all the elves of Imladris ... :)

I think that before Elrohir found Draug, no elf had ever healed an animal - but no one told Elrohir that. Even though he's adult here, he sees nothing odd about helping a stable cat to have kittens. He's probably the only elf in Imladris who thinks it's possible.

The fluff was wonderful to write after all the angst!

Poor Elladan. Still, it's better than a compound fracture!

He probably wouldn't be bothered if only he had been injured in a properly heroic way - but dancing! How embarrassing. And then having his devoted brother sail off with elflings and abandon him to grump. (I love the image of Elrohir being dragged off by a gang of elflings.)

And then to lose Arwen in the same way - I'm not surprised that he couldn't resist the urge to hobble along to find out what had kidnapped them.

And who can resist kittens? Certainly not Elladan. Although as trouble goes, straw in the hair and unmentionable stains are not the worst things that could happen. Are they?

Author Reply: Yes, poor Elladan. His pride hurts far more than his ankle here. Falling over in front of all those people ... No wonder he's so grumpy. But his ill-temper can't withstand a litter of kittens!

I tend to picture a scene in my mind, and then write it - here, I saw Elrohir being pulled along the path (quite willingly) by the elflings. I wish I could draw what I saw :(

I'm looking forward to reading of poor Elladan's riding accident. A compound fracture? Sounds very painful and unpleasant!

How cute! Kittens are a wonderful thing in life. And even though there must be many cats in Rivendell, all having litters upon litters of kittens over the centuries, I love it that everyone still gets excited about the new litters.

I sprained my ankle dancing at a party once, too. It's terribly embarrassing to have to tell people what happened to you.

Author Reply: For the elflings, this was the first litter of kittens they'd seen. Of course they were excited! And Elrohir, like any elf, delights in new life (and Elladan and Arwen.)

Poor Elladan. This accident hurt his pride far more than anything else ;)

That was very sweet. :) How can you not love the image of the new little kittens?! Well done and you're right--I needed a little fluff. Thanks!

Author Reply: I'm a cat person - can you tell? (Though I love dogs as well, having one of each!) I just wanted the twins and Arwen to have a happy time together for a change. They deserved it.

OK. That was very nice. Much better than killing Elrohir. Or Elladan. Or dropping rocks on them. Or having them catch deathly fevers. Or anything else your lively imagination comes up with!

Author Reply: Yes. I thought they all needed this quality time together! I just wanted to write a light, fluffy story for a change.
