Somewhere Only We Know  by GamgeeFest 9 Review(s)

why is it that seeing someones impending soom makes it so easy to recall why you are blessed. thank you for the genle reminder.

Author Reply: It is so easy to get wrapped up in trivial things. I was glad to give Primula this last day to simply be with her son and realize her blessings after so much sadness.

Have I buried you yet? :)

It's chilling to realise all this happened just the day before Primula and Drogo were taken by the river. But I'm glad mother and son got to have that special time. I love the game of guessing what the craftsmen were saying or thinking! LOL! Frodo is very perceptive indeed. But this was my favourite line:

A devoted husband and a darling son, she really could not ask for more. She truly was blessed.

Yes. I've often wondered what things would have been like for Frodo had his parents not died. This was beautiful, GF.
God bless,
Galadriel

Author Reply: This story wanted to lean on the angst side but I was very careful to steer clear of it. I figured it would be angsty enough just knowing this was their last day together, and kept it as light as I could. I thought it would be appropriate that the games Frodo later teaches Sam, he actually learned from his mother. Primula realizes how lucky she is to have her little family; I needed to give her a sense of closure with her grief.

Has his parents not died, things would have been much happier for Frodo, but Middle Earth would have suffered.

Very sweet, very Frodo. Such a grief that love ended in Middle Earth when Frodo was yet so young.

Love how you, as I do, see Drogo as a woodcarver and carpenter and builder of furniture.

Author Reply: It truly is a shame Frodo couldn't have had more time with his parents than he did. His parents though were very aware of how lucky they were to have him.

The image of Drogo as a woodcarver is one I've always had since I first started writing fan fiction. It seems to fit him somehow.

Thanks for reading!

How about tryst?

Namarie!
Loremaster

Author Reply: That could work, but I decided to just reword the whole sentence. So instead of "their first date" it's "the night they first met." ^_^

Thanks for the suggestion!

"A devoted husband and a darling son, she really could not ask for more. She truly was blessed."

That's such a sweet story! Today every mother should feel, that she is blessed!
Thank you for this little story :)

Author Reply: Thank you for reading. We often take our mothers for granted, and it's good to have days that remind us of all they do for us and mean to us.

What a dear, sweet story! I love the idea of Frodo and his mother having secret rituals and private moments just for them.

Author Reply: Thank you!

There's no doubt that Frodo was well-loved by his parents. Primula adores her son and husband, and they were everything she needed to help her through this difficult time in her life. The rituals she and Frodo share will be something he'll be able to reflect on and take comfort in after his parents are gone.

Awwwwwwww. *sniffs* I never thought much about Frodo's parents, and now I feel so sad that such a happy family was broken up.
Young!Frodo is so sweet. It's wonderful to see what he was like long before the Ring mess, and you seem to stay in canon since Farmer Maggot commented on how rascally he was as a child.
The writing, prose, and grammar are good except for two things:
"I am Mama" should be "I am, Mama." That was probably just a typo since your grammar is good overall.
The word date seems to be a little to modern for Tolkien's world. Perhaps a different word would be better, but I can't think of any substitutes at the moment.

Wonderful fic!

Namarie!
Loremaster

Author Reply: I'm not thrilled with the use of "date" either, but I couldn't come up with a substitute. I thought about "rendezvous" but that doesn't quite seem to fit either, and it's not as innocent sounding as "date" is in these modern times. If you think of something, let me know. :)

I enjoyed trying to think of what Wee!Frodo would be like. I imagine he would be very much like Merry and Pippin when they were young, as well as display some of the characteristics that we see in LOTR: his intutiveness, insight and empathy.

Thank you for reading and for the lovely review. I'm glad you enjoyed the fic. :)

This is *so* sweet and tender and peaceful, and reading it I just couldn't help but wish that all those little plans they were making could have been true.
I love your Primula, such a good mother, and so in love with her husband!
Just lovely, Gamgeefest, just lovely.

Author Reply: I too wish their plans could have come true. It was hard to write this, knowing it was their last day together, but it was nice to give them this time to be alone. It's a haven Frodo could go to for comfort in the coming years. He would discover other refuges as he went through his teens, but this one would be his most cherished. There will always be something of Primula and Drogo there.
