Beautiful story. The love & devotion from all the fellowship for Legolas jumps from the pages. Well written.

Author Reply: Thank you! I just remember that bit in the book ROTK when he explains about the sea-longing and all four hobbits jump in and practically beg him not to leave and give him a hundred reasons to stay. I'm glad the friendship shone through here...

O... how soft and beautiful...!

This is absolutely lovely: '...and my own voice was stilled out of sorrow, I suppose. It seemed wrong to sing."'

What a wonderful, quiet, sweet and loving story you have created. As gently lovely as the care and devotion Gimli and Pippin and Merry all had for their elf-prince friend. Wonderful story! :)

Author Reply: Thanks...I'm grateful to hear that the mood I tried to create was successful. I am part of a vocal ensemble and several times we have had to sing in concert when things were dark and sad. The music can do wonders in those moments, as does the singing for or with others.

What a lovely story, Songspinner! I love Legolas stories, and this one was just beautiful. The poor elf, to have touched so much horror and have his songs pulled from him as he tried to restore the woods... and holding a baby! (stupid-leggy-lovin'-fangirl-squee!!!) LOL Elf-holding-baby has got to be the best mental picture EVER! ::SIGH!::

Ok, I'm back. LOL I really like seeing the characters interact in new situations, and this was wonderfully done. I especailly like Gimli's concern over Legolas; very touching. Thanks so much for sharing this! :)

Author Reply: Giggle...yeah, I had such a nice image in my head as well. :) There are so many times in the books when Legolas has such a connection with the trees around him, and I was thinking how hard it would be to have contact with what had been done to the trees and forest.

Glad it worked, especially the characterization. Thank you!

What a lovely 'conspiracy' among friends to bring Legolas healing and song once again! And I do love these passages:

"You two have ever gone in circles about one another." Merry chuckled. "I shall faint on the day I hear anything from either of you in such moments other than warfare of words and subterfuge."

Legolas gazed down at the pair of round, sleepy, green eyes. Long lashes fluttered shut and then flew open again. "Trying hard not to sleep, I see," he murmured with a smile. "Rather like your father, you wish not to miss a thing."

Author Reply: Heh...that second quote was pretty much based on my daughter as an infant. She used to fight sleep like crazy every night as I sang to her, jerking her eyelids open every time I took a breath between phrases as though she was afraid to miss anything.

Yup, totally different sort of conspiracy, but just as based on love as the original one.

Thank you! I''m very glad that you liked it.

That was beautiful! I loved how the music healed Legolas and how Faramir helped him to find his song again. This was the perfect bedtime story and so now I will get some sleep.

This was was a gently beautiful little tale. You drew the characters with a very light touch, and yet they came across vividly as themselves. Legolas' distress was all the more affecting because it was so subtle. I really loved the way Pippin maneuvered him into holding little Faramir and coaxed him to speak, then to sing. You used contrast very well, I think. The powerful warrior elf whispering, "Such strength," in response to a newborn grasping the tip of his finger made such a touching little moment. Then you have the purity of the child help to heal Legolas' overexposure to the corruption in Ithilien. Very nice! ~TF

Author Reply: Wow...thank you for your comments. Yeah, sneaky little hobbit, isn't he? :) I always wondered what an elf would make of a human or hobbit child - such a different sort of life and sense of possibility.

Author Reply: That's quite all right...I hadn't expected it to come out that way myself. Darn characters were making me take dictation again... :) Many thanks for the compliment.

This is so perfect! I love it when Legolas and Gimli visit the hobbits in the Shire, and the idea of Legolas singing--it's just wonderful!!
