I think it is probably a Very Good Thing that they did not eat that fish. And anything that did would now be floating belly up. Even the most modest exposure doesn't seem to be doing Merry much good - so I dread to think how Frodo is reacting. He might need someone to do his breathing for him, even.

Don't leave him gasping for breath on the river-bank for too long, please. He needs oxygen.

Guh. Just . . . guh---I love it. A paralyzing fish bite---that is the epitome of a perfect illness for Frodo and Merry to catch while on the river. Oh, this is yummy goodness, to quote Elwen. I see you're writing some Frodo h/c into this, and I'm so very, very excited about it. :) *squees*

Author Reply: Thanks! It`s all my "evil" beta`s idea, lol. It`s my first go at Frodo h/c (allthough I have practiced at Merry for some time) so I`m glad you like it. :) More is coming!

That's a major league fish there. Something like that can't be natural to a freshwater environment. I smell a rat. And a suspicious fish. I hope they kept it, since Frodo and Merry look like they're in a bad way here. At least this'll learn them to use fishing poles.

Author Reply: They haven`t thrown the fish away yet and they did use fishing poles, that is untill this big fish started battling them. Thanks for reading!

Don`t ‘what’ me. Did you think that not telling that your hand hurt you was going to help me?” Frodo looked at him sternly. “Merry. You know that any little scrape or injury can cause infection if it`s not looked after properly.”

“You’re a fine one to talk. Are you any better? You weren’t intending to tell Strider at all, and you actually tried to hide your injury from Sam, and you know he sees everything Frodo. He knows you perhaps better than I do,” Merry said, looking over Frodo`s shoulder at the slumbering Sam.

I love this part of the conversation; it takes one to know one. Pippin's not nearly so stoic as his cousins, so I think this must be a Brandybuck thing. LOL! I can just imagine Frodo and Merry in competition to see which one can keep a stiffer upper lip.

And then to see this:

Oh, how he wished he could take the Ring away from Frodo and bear his burden, and make his cousin happy and carefree and safe once more! But there was nothing he could do. Frodo had to go through with this and Merry would help him in any way that he could. He would not leave his side.

It always gives me a little chill when either Merry or Pippin think about not leaving Frodo, when we know they will be forced to do so, willy-nilly.

And Oooohhh...nasty cliffie! Poisoned by the fish? More, soon, I hope!

Author Reply: It`s just the thing Merry and Frodo would compete about isn`t it? :) I`m glad you liked it. I haven`t used cliffhangers much, but I`m glad this one worked out nice... :) More is up now.

Eeeps! An evil, paralyzing fish bite! I love this hobbity h/c, Anso. Thank goodness Pippin woke up and knows what's going on.

Oh, and I adore this line:

...Sam forgetting in his haste to reach his master that he couldn`t swim.

:D

Author Reply: Thank you! Pippin would wake at an instant if one of his cousins were whimpering in distress like Merry does here and I think Sam would forget all about his fears if he saw Frodo in trouble like this. :)
