Avoidance  by Stefania 4 Review(s)

I keep missing the updates on this one. Grr.

I enjoyed this chapter greatly though-- the part where Faramir was resigned to loving Eowyn no matter who she married (if she did at all) was quite touching, and the part with the cat was cute. (I always thought black cats being bad luck was rather silly anyway, even though I've only had orange tabbies.)

And I think Eowyn's heart is definitely changing in favor of the Steward, even if she doesn't realize it. The cordial note from Eomer was a nice change from what I usually see in fanon too (even my own... but then, Eomer doesn't know that Faramir's actually in love with his sister, not just friends, yet. And I blame the old Farafics community for that particular plot bunny anyway. ;)

An odd chapter, nothing really happening. The calm before the storm?

Now I wonder who this High Elven Lord might be. Could it be - could it be --- Thranduil?? That would be great. But I guess I'll have to wait a long, long time ere I'll know...

Thank you!

Author Reply: Hi Irene -

Thanks so for following along.

This was my "character" chapter for Faramir, to show what it was that he was avoiding telling Eowyn about two years into their marriage. It and the previous chapter were the setup for the big stuff, which I hope will be a lot easier to write.

Hang in there.

Author Reply: And one more thing, I inadvertently deleted your review of the chapter "Putting Two Together." I'm soooo sorry. I just wanted to edit my reply, which had a typo, and wound up deleting the whole thing. My sincere apologies.

I just loved this chapter, especially the cat. You have some great comic lines concerning it from both Ioreth and Eowyn.I have added cats to my own stories as I am owed by four ! A very enjoyable read.

Author Reply: Thanks, Linda. This chapter was so hard to write--one last chance for Faramir angst before his life is about to change big time.

I wanted so badly to give him a little black cat to help in his loneliness, grief, and uncertainty about his future. Animals are so good at doing that. Cirion's been on my mind for at least two years. He finally found his way onto the pages of my story.

And yes, those of us who love cats should put them in our fan fiction, especially since Tolkien just didn't understand felines.

A good, poignant chapter. Faramir's pondering what would the people of Gondor do in peacetime was particularly effective, neither he nor any of his generation have ever been free of Mordor-fear before.

Cute bit about the kitty. I've always thought that Faramir would have house dogs and cats in Ithilien, and maybe a pet or two in his quarters in Minas Tirith, post-ROTK.

So when will Aragorn send for Faramir? Or will he wait until the coronation to inform Faramir that the job of Steward is still his?

Author Reply: Hi Raksha -

I'm glad you enjoyed this chapter of "blood, sweat, and tears." I liked your story "Luck from the Ashes" but was disappointed that you gave Faramir a white cat. Geez. So I had to give him a black cat, which would tell you something about what type of cat I have.

I absolutely agree about Faramir and Eowyn having lots of animals in Ithilien. Medieval people lived tooth and jowl with all sorts of animals, not just those that we keep today as pets. I imagine them having herding dogs and hunting dogs, cats to keep down the rodent population, falcons, and maybe even the exotic parrot or two. Not to mention the horses and the other critters in the barn!

Thanks for helping me out with "Avoidance."
