Picturing our Hobbits lying in bed peacefully gives an adorable image!

It seems appropriate that Sam would be the one to return more or less to his old ways of sleeping.

Author Reply: Thanks! Yes, I think that Sam is the most down to earth about some things : ) Thanks for reading and reviewing!

Those were great! I think I liked Merry's best although they were all wonderful. That Merry would need to guard Pippin against things even after they are all safe once more.

Frodo staying up into the night reading and studying and then later because he doesn't want to face his dreams was very sad.

Pippin curling into a ball always just once the Quest is over he is not secure anymore.

I likve that Sam is still steadfast in his being able to sleep, atleast with Rose to sooth him. The idea that he knows when Frodo is thinkig of him even after he crosses the sea is very neat. An idead that could be expounded upon?

Author Reply: Thank you! I think I like Merry's best too, and I can see a sleepy Pippin fetched by Merry, shuffling along the corridor in his nightshirt yawning, but patient and understanding that Merry needs to know he is safe and well.

Frodo is a bit like me, except for the dreams I am happy to say, and poor Pippin used to enjoy his little nest so much but no longer. And as for Sam, I think that he is so attuned to Frodo now that he would sometimes sense Frodo thinking of him. I don't have any plans to write it, so if you'd like to, do so!

How very poignant. Poor Merry, though, I am glad he has Pippin there to ease his nerves. And I really liked the ending with Sam waking and knowing that Frodo was thinking of his across the Sea -- very touching. Frodo's awkward sleeping habits remind me of my own, actually... it reminds me I'd rather like to tap a nap right now... Great job! :)

Author Reply: Thanks : ) I think that it was very important that Merry and Pippin share a home for a while after returning to the Shire, because they would need to ease back into normalcy. They all would. They know that they *should* be safe now, but after what they have seen Outside, sometimes they doubt what they know should be true, especially after finding the Shire in the straits it was in.

I am glad that you liked the end. I think that Frodo and Sam would have had a definite connection after all they had been through. And Frodo's awkward sleeping habits are based on mine, lol. I slept almost a whole hour last night! Roughly 05:04 to 05:59! If I didn't have to get the Challenge posted today I'd try for a nap myself!

Oh, Marigold! These are wonderful!

I especially loved this: Sometimes, when he does sleep, he wakes unsettled and seeks out Pippin, bringing his understanding and unresisting cousin back to his own bed to keep him safe, between himself and the wall.

On those nights, Merry sleeps, or doesn’t, facing outward, his sword to hand.

And this: Now he again sleeps contented till dawn, Rosie’s nearness soothing his edginess, except when he senses some unrest of his master’s, and he awakens, instantly alert. Such is their connection that later, after Frodo crosses the Sea, sometimes Sam will wake, knowing Frodo thinks of him.

Author Reply: Thank you! I love the Merry bit too, enough so that I look at it and don't fully understand that *I* wrote it. I have such an image in my head of a patient and understanding Pippin yawning and shuffling back to Merry's room with him.

And somehow I see Sam always having this connection with Frodo, like your thread between them all - somehow each always knows that the other is connected to the other end. The same with Merry and Pippin.
