ET's Dribs and Drabbles  by Elena Tiriel 8 Review(s)
Jay of LasgalenReviewed Chapter: 8 on 3/22/2008

I don't know how I've missed these!

I love this one - that struggle with the word count is so familiar! It really is an impractical obsession, but such fun.

I remember answering the same challenge, and using the fact that a certain pair of twins were 111 when their sister was born :>)

Author Reply: Hi Jay!

Yes, we drabblists do tend to be a bit on the, er *cough* obsessive *cough* side, don't we? LOL!

I very much remember your drabble for the eleventy-one challenge... I was absolutely floored to learn that the twins were 111 when Arwen was born! What a perfect idea for that challenge!

And thanks for your kind words!

Heh!

Author Reply: LOL! Yes, only crazy people voluntarily put themselves through the throes of drabble writing..... ;-)

- Barbara, who isn't about to stop writing them anytime soon....

Loved it! Very unique. I definately would not have thought of that. Drabbles are so hard to write because they use so little words.

Author Reply: Hi Lady Morrigan!

I'm so sorry I didn't see this review and reply to it when you posted... please forgive my oversight!

I've written a lot of drabbles now... but the struggle always remains the same: try to say just enough, but not too much... use really strong, evocative language... and, to top it all off, fit it all in 100 words!

It's an obsession, really... but one that I really enjoy. ;-)

Thank you for your encouraging review!

LOLOL!!! Yes, the diffiuclty of writing drabbles...EXACTLY one hundred words is no easy task!

Author Reply: Yes, indeed! Once I get close to the count, I actually start counting by hand, because I don't trust software like Word to do it accurately... but then, as soon as I get a count, I change my mind and reword the drabble... then have to re-count...

It's a vicious cycle, I tell you!

Is there a Drabbles Anonymous help group available?

- Barbara, who doesn't really want to be cured... ;-D

LOL.

Author Reply: Yes! It's funny, but there's a level of reality, too... drabblists tend to be a bit, um, obsessive...

How cute! I can identify with the scribbler. Trying to fit canon, plots, characters, pipweed and chocolate cake all together is a challenge. Not that I did this one, but I understand the struggle. I got a nice smile out this. Enjoyed it!

Karen

Author Reply: Glad you got a smile out of it! As if fitting all those elements together was bad enough (although I cheated by writing about the writing itself), getting them into the word count was just as hard as it describes in the drabble... ;-)

Elena Tiriel, how absolutely wonderful, and what a range of subject and style!! I haven't seen most of these before, shame on you for just now posting!

Sulriel

Author Reply: Thanks for your kind words, Sulriel! I finally gathered the courage to post them publically.

Almost all of them come from the HASA Birthday Cards forum. Even when I'm not writing drabbles -- just had a dry period of almost six months -- I can still read all the delightful ones others submit there... it's a real treat.

Now this left me giggling because this is exactly my train of thought when trying to write a drabble. :) These were alot of fun. I hope to see more soon.

Author Reply: Me, too! I just tear my hair out over some of them!
