ET's Dribs and Drabbles  by Elena Tiriel 4 Review(s)

Yes, King and sons and nephew died, and now it will be up to Earnil to fill the gap on all stormfronts.

Author Reply: Hi Larner!

Yes, indeed... since the Steward would not accept Arvedui's claim, Gondor needed to cast about for a new king — and who better than a winning general?

I always thought that the loss of all Ondoher's heirs was an especially tragic episode in Gondor's history... and, of course, Faramir would know all about it, since his father got him so interested in history! LOLOL!

Thanks for your thoughts, Larner!

I could feel the tenseness of awaiting battle in these few words. Excellent how you've captured so much emotion. I liked this one too.

This is the first drabble I've written from the standpoint of just before a battle, and I think the tension worked out okay.

I especially love this one. You know it is my weakness to write from a single line of obscure text. Well done.!

Author Reply: A single line of obscure text -- yup, that's my weakness, too!

And Tolkien wrote so many lines that just pop out at you and *want* to be embellished upon... Most of my overall ideas for drabbles come from the HASA birthday cards forum, but when I think about which aspect of that idea to focus on, it's almost always one of Tolkien's lines -- often obscure -- that provides the spark. What an absolute genius he was!

Oh I loved this one. The Battle of the Camp is very interesting to me right now. I love how you tied these two events together. Very clever and very poignant (sp?).

Author Reply: Thanks, Elliska! And I just knew that Faramir would know the history of that road, too...

Much of my inspiration comes from being a Resources Volunteer on HASA; as I compile quotes for the resource library entries, I come across (numerous!) inspiring passages.

If you are a HASA member, you can log on to henneth-annun.net, go to Resources, then do a search on "Battle of the Camp" and find an overview of all the entries I added about the Wars with the Wainriders, and also the North Road of Ithilien (just in case you want to, say, write a story but don't happen to have UT with you at the moment...)
